Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 73 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very good, The installation is very simple for the average handyman. I used this to replace an obsolete rear mech on my everyday bike and the operation is noticeably stiffer and smoother. Very happy with it. I think it looks very good, but that depends on the bike you put it on. The only downside is I think the pulley wheels. I expected to see ceramic slide bearings or steel ball bearings. I changed them out of personal preference. 14 April 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by good reliable product Got this to replace an old style deore mech . I delighted with how this functions. RECOMMENDED !!!!! 31 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by ottimo qualita prezzo eccellenti... bei prezzi..... ottimi pezzi. in 13/15 giorni consegna in italia. mai dato problemi di nessuna natura.... 16 February 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by good quality, not recommended for hard use I purchased this derrallieur a couple of years back to run on my freeride bike. First impressions were good, its well made and gives very crisp shifting and The price was reasonable. However, I managed to pull the derrallieur into my wheel after only a few months of use, from coming up short on a jump. This was obviously down to user error, however it was unexpected as it wasnt a very hard case. I have a friend who experienced the same thing, 3 times over with the same mech, under fairly normal use. Due to this i wouldnt recommend this derrallieur for hard use, however for lighter riding it should stand up fine. 04 February 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Reliable shifter for the price I have two of these one on my cross bike and one on my MTB. Both keep working in all wet muddy/grity conditions I ride in, and both take my aggressive gear changing. I found on both set ups that keeping the little tension screw (by the mounting) as far out as possible and keeping the chain short as possible gives the crispest changes (probably goes for all mechs, but I cant also be bother to mess with the chain lengths) I recently hit a rock on my MTB which pushed the mech into the rear wheel, causing a horrible tangle and locking up the wheel. Amazingly it survived, just bent the cage a bit, so I carried on riding thinking these must be the toughest mechs ever! But alas the whole thing snapped a few miles later. But I don't think less of it for that, as something had to break! So overall I cannot fault these mechs for the price. 02 February 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice rear mech The only thing I could say I don't like is the length between jockey wheels, apart from that it is a pretty good mech. I`ve used it for about 5 months now up and down hill with no problems so far. 20 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent piece Has different structure for adjustments than my old deore. Some cutting and fitting, and Voilà! Durable, looks like it will last for a long while... 01 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by bombproof bought to replace my deore shadow which spring failed, this one has been kicking on for years, only had to replace jockey wheels. 05 December 2013

Answer:
This will be fine. The 9 speed rear mech will do what the 8 speed shifters tell it to. You only start running into problems when you go 10 speed or above.

Answer:
It will be ok providing that you set up the limit screws and B screw appropriately. Bear in mind that the pulley wheel size has changed on 9sp mechs but it will run fine out of the box.

Answer:
I would think yes, you only have to make sure the reach is properly set and you have the right shifters for the cassette you are using.

Answers

Answer:
GS = medium cage; SGS = long cage

It refers to the maximum number of teeth that the derailleur can accept and shift smoothly with.

So if you plan to get a cassette which does not have more than 35 teeth (e.g. 11-34T), go for GS.

Answer:
A simple formula for calculating of derailleur total capacity: (largest number of teeth of the cassette - smallest number of teeth of the cassette) + (largest number of teeth of the crankset - smallest number of teeth of the crankset) = total capacity.
For example - (32-11)+(44-22)=43Т.

I currently have an RDM592SGS on a 2011 Lapierre Spicy 216. Would this derailleur be an upgrade?

Also I now run a single ring up front and the standard 11-34 at the rear. Is the medium cage the best option for this?

Answer:
The M592 is the Deore level mech, so this SLX represents a direct upgrade and should fit without any problem. As you are running a single ring on the front, a Medium cage rear derailleur will be fine, yes.

Answer:
RDM-592 is standard Deore. Hence that would be an upgrade.

As for the cage length- if you are running a single ring I would go for a short cage. It will work with medium if necessary too but you might have some issues with chain tension.

Answer:
The largest cassette max sprocket which is compatible with this derailleur is 34tooth; meaning that shifting through am 11-36t cassette would not be mechanically possible.

Answer:
This derailleur comes with a screw to adjust the top jockey wheel so should easily accept a slightly bigger 1st gear. In fact I am changing mine from a 32 to a 34 this week.

Answer:
The mech (derailleur) itself won't be responsible for that but the straight forward answer is yes. It will be new, which in effect improves the tension, and also it's a better design as the B spring was removed and these are gravity reliant now.

Answer:
The spring tention will be greater as the older mech's spring is already worn, but it will not make a huge difference. If you want an increase your chain tention I suggest you shorten your chain or get yourself one of those "shadow plus" mechs which have a lever to increase the chain tention.
