La estética del SLX me gusta más y está diría a la altura de la calidad del XT. Decidí cambiar mi transmisión por esta SLX y vi que las diferencias con XT no son tan apreciables para mi. Rated 5 out of 5 by great crankset Currently using 9s set up. Still run and shift well with some tuning. Never realized chainring bolt using torx key to remove it. Bottom bracket are smoother than the bb51 that were used on the deore 590. Maybe due to the cheaper price,it doesnt come with original box or full instruction manual. Rated 4 out of 5 by SLX CHAINSET I agree with the first reviewers comments - very good stiff and reliable chainset. I needed a good chainset to fit an all black bike frame - but I didnt want to spend the money on a good matching all black crankset that would only look terrible after a few months due to foot rub. The SLX fits the bill as its black all over except for a thin silver strip at the front of the crank arms - which means this should look good for a long time yet. I didn't need the chain rings as I fitted a narrow wide chain ring and bash - so for the gram counters out there - this crank set and bottom bracket (without chain-rings) weighs in at 682grams - so reasonably light. It also looks really good on the frame - a much nicer design than the older model and better looking than the XT crank set in my opinion Not surprised its sold out at the time of this review. 02 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by The essence of the drive train I’ve selected this M-670 Triple instead of M-675 Double, though I didn’t need the outer chain ring anyway for I wanted to put a bash guard on it, and M-675 didn’t have 34T ring that I wanted, so it was sort of a compromise anyway. I’ve used this outer-less triple crank set with FD-M676 (designed for the double), also with SL-M670 set to the “double position”, they all work without any problem. It may take a bit of adjustment for the chain line later, but so far, I haven’t felt any inconvenience. I’m not that sensitive enough to tell the difference of the strength or the durability of the crank itself, but I surely feel it more stable and controllable, feel more steadiness in the rear drive train, together with the SLX cassette, the XT chain and a non-Shimano rear wheel with a 36-notched free body mounted on a sealed bearing hub. The well-balanced integration seems quite important to make the best of a good crank set… 31 October 2013

You can use a 9 speed chain with this as the 9 speed chain will be wider than a 10 speed chainrings so will work fine.

Forget about the below if you've been over it already.

I've once used 10s outer chain ring on a 9s crank set, with all the other
components of 9s. This was alright.

If you use 10s crank set on a 9s drive train, there might be some sort
noise somehow, possibly when you use inner chain ring and higher
(smaller) gears of rear sprocket, as the 9s thicker chain may scratch
the tip of the larger chain rings. I'm not quite sure about this as I haven't
done anything like that myself, but I've heard that it seems to occur to
road bikes quite often.

In that case, all those road bike people change the chains to 10s, and
then it seems alright. The 10s chain is narrower out side, but the width
of the inside plates of it looks the same as 9s, so it seems to fit the cogs
of 9s sprocket alright. You may need to adjust the chain-line either with
BB or spider arm of the crank, according to which gear of the rear sprocket
you usually use most, I don't know

Also you may have to be careful with the width of front derealleur's move-
ment, if it's set to fit the 9s crank width, otherwise it may hit the crank and
interfere its rotating. This should be easy, you only need a philips screw
driver for the adjustment.

Answer: 
And also, when you make it single, as you may know, you'll definitely need
the chain guide, otherwise the chain comes off so often, even by dropping
off a 4 inch gap. As all it has to do is just hold the chian and let it stay on the
chian ring, I DIYed and made one myself. (It works perfectly).
I just couldn't afford the proper one as they were too expensive !

You would need to buy a press fit bearing assembly as the crank I received came with the threaded type. Even with the extra purchase you're still saving quite a bit.
