Answer:
The easiest way I have found is to put the chain on the outer front ring and the largest on the cassette, do not put it through the derailleurs yet, where the chain links cross find the closest joinable link and add three more links. Once the chain has been cut to that link feed the chain through the derailleurs and connect using the supplied pin then run through the gears, all should be well.

Answer:
Yes it will be, if you have 3 chainrings you will want to have the 'medium cage' but if you have only the 2 chainrings you may want the 'short cage' option.

Theoretically no chainlinks will need to be added or removed as the rear derailleur will take up the slack when shifting over the different ratio's.

Answer:
Yes; the 10sp cassettes are supplied with their corresponding lockring (it is often either on top or on the underside of the plastic carrier, which it can slip off, so be sure to double check the packaging in case it becomes loose in transit)

Answer:
The Shimano 10sp Road cassettes are cross compatible, so you can replace your Tiagra cassette with an Ultegra if you wish, yes. Keeing the same tooth ratio should make it a straight as well, so your rear derailleur won't need re-adjusted.

Answer:
The most important thing about a cassette's compatibility is the spacing of the sprockets, and any two Shimano or SRAM 10 speed cassettes will have the same spacing.

You should not have to change other components, but I would always recommend getting a new chain when you replace a cassette.

Yes this cassette will work with a Shimano Ultegra 6750 groupset. But if you choose the 12-30t
option you will require a medium cage rear derailleur.

Answer:
Hi, No sorry, you would have to replace the top three cogs as they are attached. If you was going to buy the 11-28 you would only have the top two gears of different ratios, a 24,28 as opposed to a 23,25. As is always the case you would be wise to order a new chain at the same time as your old chain would be worn to your old cassette.

Answer:
No, this will not be possible as the three largest rings on the cassette are non removable/replaceable, if you remove your cassette you will see that they are riveted to the cassette body. - I own a 6700 cassette 11-28t

Answer:
In theory yes but your rear derailleur will have a maximum tooth difference between top and bottom sprockets so you will need to check, most short cage derailleurs can only cope with 28 tooth sprocket so you may need to get a long cage derailleur to use a 12 - 30 cassette.

Answer:
In practice this would not be a problem; we wary however of the added Gear Capacity on the 12-30 cassette which is not compatible with all Rear Derailleurs.

Answer:
Compatibility with this cassette and your drivetrain will depend on the model number of your derrailleur, total drivetrain capacity and the cage length.

Answer:
I would say most road type derailleurs are short cage. They best way to tell is look at the jockey wheels and judge by the gap between the two. Most MTBs are fitted with long cage, does if look like them?

Compatible with Giant Cross City RX parts?

So I recently bought a Shimano Ultegra 6700 10sp rear derailleur and found out that it was not compatible with my current cassette (Shimano HG62 11-34T), so now I am wanting to buy this but do not want to buy it and find out it is not compatible with other components.
Anyone able to tell me if this cassette is compatible with these components:
- Shimano Ultegra 6700 10sp rear derailleur
- KMC X10 10sp chain
- Shimano Tiagra 31.8 10sp front derailleur
- Shimano R460, Compact 34x48T crankset

I'm rather a "noob" at this so any help would be appreciated :)

Answer:
From the parts you have listed there doesn't seem to be a problem, If your current chain has done a few miles I would recommend replacing the chain at the same time as if it is worn it will jump when putting the power down on a new cassette.
