Shimano Ultegra 6800 11 Speed Road Cassette

It’s not often a cassette is the most significant component in the release of a new groupset, (well, for a year at least, since the launch of Dura Ace 9000), but the extra sprocket on this new Ultegra cassette will be a welcome addition for riders seeking wider ratios.

The CS-6800 will offer plenty: 11-23, 11-25, 12-25, 11-28, and a whopping 11-32. The broad choice supports a concept Shimano calls a “rider tuned drivetrain”, offering ratios they believe are appropriate to cycling’s four major riding types. While its possible to achieve broad ratios from 10-speed set-ups (SRAM’s Wi-Fli offers 11-32, after all), doing so from 11 speeds should reduce the gap between each sprocket.

Features:

  • Lightweight 11-speed HG-EV cassette with rigid alloy sprocket carrier for reduced weight and better shifting performance, even under the most demanding gear changes
  • Hyperglide EV sprockets have been designed to reduce weight with improve teeth shaping providing accurate shifting and reduced wear
  • Wide gear range to meet the demands of all types of rider
  • For use with HG-EV chains
  • Weight: 212g (11-23)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Just as good as anything better Good Quality with out spending more!. don't need a Dura Ace when you get just as good for less! 20 October 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by this cassette is good The 6800 11sp cassette together with 6800 chain shifted beautifully across the cassette range . The cassette is able to take pressure during uphill shift . Good product . 09 October 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect for hill climbing Works perfectly with my DuraAce 9000 set up. I would choose this over a DuraAce cassette even if offered in 11-32, which it is not, as the 6800 much better value. Love the extra low gearing for the hills where I live. Great value as usual and fast shipping too! 07 October 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bought for my Dura Ace 9000 At a 1/3 of the price of a Dura Ace cassette I thought i'd give this a try after reading the other reviews, and I have to say it does the job perfectly, looks great and changes effortlessly and smoothly.I bought the 11/28 and run it on the rest of the Dura Ace components without any problems. 06 October 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by 11spd 11-28 cassette seems good, waiting to see if they material holds up 04 October 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by this good item this cassette very good work with 50 34 compact ultegra 6800 buy with confidence 13 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Better than Dura Ace The alloy carrier on this Ultegra is way stronger than the composite on the Dura Ace 9000. That being said, it is heaver than DA, but with no flex all of your torque is realized. 02 September 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Spacing issues dragged the rating down I only purchased the Ultegra as CRC were out of stock of the 105 cassettes when I ordered a new set of 11 speed shifters. I have used ultegra cassettes in the past and have not been impressed with their longevity but I was prepared to wear the extra cost and a quicker wear rate to get my bike on the road. I was not happy to find that my chain was working in on all cogs with exception of the 3rd smallest. Upon further inspection I found that the chain was getting caught between the third and fourth sprocket causing it to jump when the chain released. It was like running an old chain on a new cluster. As I said all other gear positions worked fine. I also confirmed that the spacers were indeed marked 11s my assumption therefore is that the rise on the 4th cog aligns just right with the dip on the 3rd to result in a narrower gap at that point which is where the chain gets captured. The only way I can alleviate this is by reducing the tension on the lock nut slightly. The drawback of doing this I fear is premature cassette wear. Maybe I just lucked out on this cassette but to me it is not worth the premium paid. 20 August 2014

Answer:
Nope - you'll need to go to the 'GS' long/medium cage rear mech. I've successfully done just this - but note that in order to achieve the chain wrap, you'll also need extra chain length. In my particular case, I added a couple of extra links in the chain - 108 links as opposed to 106. The front mech is unaffected by such a change.

Answer:
You should be able to. If you have the short rear mech (the SS), it has enough chain wrap for up to a 28 sprocket. However, you may need to increase the length of your chain to account for the extra 3 teeth. It'll probably only need 1 or 2 links. I would suggest you get a whole new chain as it's never a good idea to add 'new' links to an 'old' (used) chain.

Will those 11 speed cassettes fit 9 speed free body ? (both Shimano or compatible)
I know 10 speed's will wth a spacer, and 10-speed-only free body won't match 9 or

Answer:
Mavic use their own freehub size, which is wider than a standard 8-10 speed one. This means all 8-10 speed cassettes need the Mavic spacer provided with the wheels, while the 11 speed Shimano cassettes don't need it. You should be able to remove your 10sp cassette and spacer, and replace it with an 11 speed cassette.
