Answer:
This chainring is intended for use with a 9-speed drivetrain; making the tooth profile not narrow enough for use with a 10-speed chain.

Answer:
Yes, you can use these chainrings on 8 or 9 speed systems. The 'A' and 'B' types are primarily a manufacturer reference, referring to the location of the pick-up/ ramping pins. You should use matching rings for the best shifting performance, but you can mix and match without much trouble in most instances.

Compatibility question

Looking for a chainring to replace the worn 130mm 52 chainring on my Shimano600 drive train (8 speed which I'm upgrading to 9 speed). Will this 52t FC6500 be compatible?

Answer:
You may find that the ramping/ shifting pin is in a different location to the original ring, but as long as the BCD matches you should be able to use this without any trouble, yes.
