Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great brake - probably a little more than your (very!) average rider needs Super brake, a noticeable improvement in performance over the non-branded stock brakes that came on my bike. I had previously bought a decent pad to see if my braking in wet weather would improve, it helped - however the missing link was a decent brake/cantilever. There was a noticeable reduction in the amount of power I had to apply the levers to achieve the same braking force. A big thumbs up from me Anyone seeking a brake with long drop (57mm) lever arms this is definitely the one to go for. Good modulation with 105 5700 STI shifters and seems pretty light if that is a major concern for you. 29 April 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Decent Deep Drop Brakes Had these for almost a year now and found them to be an improvement over the Tektro R-358. I must say I have never tried the shimano pads as I went straight to Kool Stops and then have tried Swiss Stops. The sunken nut was too small on the front brake to fit through my carbon aero forks, so had to use a longer one. They are Ultegra/105 range; if you look on the shimano website and download the parts doc, they have a couple more of the same parts used on the Ultegra brake than the 105. 05 January 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent upgrade I bought these to replace the unbranded Tektro brakes on my road bike. I wanted 105 brakes to match the shifters and mechs but needed a longer drop than the 105's have. The difference is incredible. I have to remember to brake later and more gently or lock up the wheels and stop far to quickly. For a couple of quid less I can't see any difference in quality. Excellent value. 02 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by For the money I can not fault them. My road bike came with Lee Chi single pivot callipers and stopping was more luck than judgement. With this beauty on the front the bike actually slows and stops with ease. For the money I can not fault them. Just need to save my pennies so I can replace the rear brake now. 17 February 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good quality component. I have these on my wet weather/winter racer. There are many other types of 57mm caliper arm drop brakes available, for when your frame takes full mud-guards & wider tyres than 23mm, i.e. 25mm & 28mm/700c. It's a pity Shimano don't make 57mm drop calipers an option in the 'Ultegra' 6700 groupset (std' calipers are up to 49mm drop) -as this is the groupset i have on winter racer. These R650 calipers are about '105/5700' groupset quality & price. They work well with the 6700 STI levers, calipers are fairly ridgid & well made. 11 February 2012

The 10.5mm refers to the diameter of the bolt.
The length refers to the 51.4mm pivot for the front.
36.7mm is the length of the rear.

I was told the Synapse requires a long reach arm brake. I am currently on Claris group set. I would like to upgrade to this brake. How can I confirm that this is indeed suitable?

Answer:
Simply measure the vertical drop on your existing brake; the straight line distance from the mounting bolt to the pads (image below). This gives you your brake 'drop/ reach'; standard caliper brakes are 39-47mm; long are usually 47-57mm, and Xlong are up to around 73mm.
