Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by good component I brought this for my current bike until I buy a new frame and have the bike I want I have tiagra 4600 sti break lever shifters and needed a 3x10 front derailleur and this was the best I could find at a good price it was easy to set up it also came with shims if needed the derailleur is smooth, precise, and fast this derailleur is a bottom pull design its lightish and feels strong capable of changing gear under load but not recommended and the quality is good aswell as its design 02 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bon produit Installé, avec les commandes r770 type flat bar: fonctionne parfaitement, dérailleur de qualité. 06 September 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Get The Right Version I've used the R453 9 sp front derailleur for 10sp systems and it works for either a 50T or 52T chainring. The R773 for 52T, however, can not be used on a 50T as the inner plate will rub on the middle chain ring when in the big ring. The R453 seems to work as well too and can be found for a lot less other than the sale items on CRC. The R773 is a well made derailleur though and is great for flat bar use but get the right model. I would also bet the 50T R773 works fine with a 52T chain ring but Shimano must have a reason for making both. 04 September 2012

Answer:
This derailleur is designed for a narrow 10-speed chain (a 9-speed chain will not shift efficiently) and for use with Road shifters.

Mountain bike components mixed with this derailleur will not perform as well as the manufacturer intended.
