Rated 5 out of 5 by Ultegra pedals... Fantastic set of pedals. Having used basic shimano pd-520 spd-sl pedals before I was used to clipless anyway, but the 6800 Ultegra pedals are something else. Functionality is the same but in a much lighter package and just as reliable. Was using them on my Giant Defy 1 I use for commuting 200 miles a week and they never skipped a beat. Was going to get a basic set (pd-540) for winter use on the defy and save the 6800 for my 6800 spec TCR but ended up buying a new set of Ultegra for the new bike. Love them 07 October 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Large platform, QUIET pedals and cleats I've ridden LOOK pedals for more than 30 years, but my most recent pair - Keos with gray cleats - were driving me crazy. They squeaked as if I had a live mouse between my shoes and pedals. Nothing helped, and I tried TriFlow on the pedal springs; Teflon spray, Armor All, and Speedplay lube on the pedals and/or cleats. I'd read on forums that other folk had had similar problems with the LOOK gray cleats. I read good reviews of the Ultegra SPD-SL 6800 Carbon Road Pedals, and since Chain Reaction had them on sale, thought I'd try them; figured they'd mate well with my Shimano R315 shoes. They did. The larger platform was more stable, and allowed me to transmit more power - with no squeak. I'm a happy guy. But, I also want to mention the little things that make the SPD system superior to LOOK. The Keos have flat washers and small mounting bolts with small, shallow bolts. I've stripped the allen holes out of at least one bolt on every pair of LOOK pedals I've mounted. The Shimano washers have a flange that sits down into the pedal mounting slot, making the mounting more stable. Also, the mounting bolts are wider, and the allen holes are wider and deeper than LOOK's. I was able to tighten the Shimano mounting bolts with no stripping or cleat movement. Small things, but important, and marks of quality design. 05 October 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great quality at an affordable price I have to admit that I bought these purely for bling, but they do feel better than the 105 pedals that I have replaced. 02 October 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by One nice set of carbon pedals This was a upgrade from my old 6800 aluminum ultegra pedals that after two solid years of abuse wore out. These carbons are lighter and seem to roll over much easier than my old set, and have a different shaft /bearing setup, much nicer quality design. Can't tell there is a pedal under my shoe, nice. 18 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great quality at this price I had the carbon Ultegra pedal for few months now and I'm fully satisfied. They were only stiff to clip at the beginning but after few clip in and out it felt good. Really light and stiff, the large area looks really efficient when pedaling. The only drawback would be that in the market they are not the easiest one to clip in, you need to focus to clip in most of the time compared to other brand that I had where you didn't have to think. 11 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great pedal Was looking at a new set of pedals and wasn't considering a carbon pair, but couldn't resist these at the price. I already have the 105 versions on another bike and find Shimano brilliant for quality so it was a no brainer. Highly recommended. 10 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Gorgeous Annoyingly, but I used to underestimated the importance of good pedals. Even silly to compare Keo Classic with Ultegra, however, the difference is dramatic. Ultegra worth every cent. 31 August 2014

Answer:
The hex key axle allow you to fit and remove the pedal by the crank arm: I wouldn't say it's mechanically any different as far as effort it concerned, but it certainly looks much neater and allows for a shorter axle, which in turn makes it stronger.

Answer:
No, not at all. (Why do you think they would be?) It's good practice to lightly grease the threads before you tighten them into the crank - I use copper-slip. But they're easy to torque-up with your hex wrench, and just as easy to undo. HTH...

I found when I put these pedals on they are just as easy or maybe even easier than using a standard wrench I think that is because it takes the weight better. That Is me and it only really matters if you take them of regularly.

Answer:
There is no weight limit for pedals as far as we are aware; the weight limit for road wheels is 100kg, its unlikely the pedals will fail before the wheels will.

Answer:
Shimano themselves have not issued any weight limits, so I wouldn't treat them any differently from other pedals. (If there was a low limit, then I think the manufacturer would have said.)

I'm not exactly a lightweight - 12-stone - and the pedals are holding up perfectly with me standing on them at the first sign of any hill! HTH

Answer:
The crank arm (edge) to pedal cleat (centre) is around 52mm on these pedals. I don't believe this is different to the previous models (the lower profile mentioned in the description refers to the height of the pedal and it's relation to the centre of the sole of your shoe).

Answer:
I'm not sure what you mean by 'normal', but compared to an R540 SPD-SL, the positioning of the central plate appears identical. Of course, you'll have some room on the cleat position to move your shoe closer or further from the crank/stay if you wish. HTH...
