Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great value for money Another value Shimano product that keeps shifting precise and crispy. Better than most chains I've tried. 12 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Buena relación calidad/precio Perfecta. Pesa un poco mas que la XTR. Viene con el bulón para un montaje rápido 20 February 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Shimano reliability.. just works a treat I bought this to replace a KMC (on my circa 2009 Ellsworth Moment fitted with SLX/XT drive chain) which broke.. .I bought an XT replacement rather than another KMC as my Genesis Latitude hardtail is currently running an XT drive chain (which i won.. :) ) and it just works so sweetly..even under pressure towing 25 kilos on an off road camping trip.. So to return to the Ellsworth KMC incident I broke the chain towing a stolen Xmas tree on same trailer.. over ambitious perhaps.. ;) . The chain actually broke at the KMC magic link... so my complaints that the XT doesn't have magic link connections is perhaps out of order.. 05 January 2014
24 December 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good chain, but you'll need a tool to fit it easily. Chain is light, good and strong. The link chain is difficult without one of those point nosed chain link installation tools. i did it with a point nosed pliers and a point nosed vice grip. but it was difficult. 18 December 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Buen producto Como todas las cadenas que he probado de shimano, buen producto 16 October 2013

Answer:

The main difference is the quality of the inner rollers; for which the XT HG95 will roll smoother and quietly.

Answer:
The weight per link is lower for starters. The HG95 is optimised for XT drivetrains and has directional links the pins are also hollow. Its a bit lighter overall and lasts a little longer perhaps.

Answer:
The number of links the chain has depends on your bikes drive train. Some drive trains need longer chains than others and you choose accordingly to what your bike needs.

Answer:
2 links at the risk of sounding obvious - they are usually always too big. The 116 is usually for triple front ring hardtail/full suspension setups, the 114 for hardtails single and double ring full suspension setups. to know how many links you need before you remove the excess you put the chain on the largest cog on the rear cassette and the largest ring on the front.

Answer:
No its a Shimano chain hence no Sram Powerlink though you can fit one if you wish. You will still need a chain splitter/chain tool to remove the right amount of links for your bike - or if fitting a Powerlink - to make sure the ends fit together. You will need a chain tool to put the pins back in the chain securely.

The chain comes with an power link, its difficult to fit, I did it with a pointed nose pliers, a proper chain Pliers would make the job easier.

Answer:
Chains are always initially sized to be a bit longer than a drivetrain requires.

The 2013 Nukeproof Mega AM with the suggested drivetrain will require roughly 104/108 Links; however different setups can vary in chain length to fine tune the chain tension, for this reason it is always better to have a few extra links to work with when installing a chain.

The 116 Link chain is the suggested option.

It seems to me there used to be little to no difference between Ultegra and XT chains. The Ultegra now has cut outs in the links. Is there a solid reason not to use the Ultegra chain on the XT set up. Both are 10 speed the ultegras just happen to be a better price. Thanks

Answer:
Put simply, yes. The Ultegra group set is for road bikes. The XT group set and this chain in particular is for mountain bike and off road use, its lighter and more supple than a road chain. Take it from someone whom cleaned a friends road bike as a favour - the Ultegras once gummed up are disposable. The XT stuff if you look after it will look after itself, its worth spending a little extra rather than having to replace your chain so often (from stretch not lack of maintenance).

Answer:
Ultimately every chain length with need to be modified regardless of the length supplied by the manufacturer; however as you are running a 1x10 setup the shorter 114 Links will be adequate.

However if you would like to have an extra 2 links spare; you might as well get the 116 Link option.
