Shimano XT HG95 SIL-TEC 10 Speed Chain

Shimano XT 10-speed chain for the new Dyna-Sys 10-speed drivetrain. It is more efficient due to the special surface treatment, quieter and require less maintenance. The assembly and directional tread chain provides a new evolution of shifting performance.

Features:

  • Hyperglide (HG-X) series 10-speed directional Dyna-Sys compatible chain for use with 10-speed MTB drivetrains
  • HG-X Chain uses a directional design with specifically shaped inner and outer plates to optimise shifting over the chainset and cassette
  • Outer plate design has been developed to reduce the chance of chain suck
  • The inner plate has been developed for better contact with gears providing smoother shifting under high load, giving efficient pedalling, increased rigidity and near silent running
  • Durability is assured through a chromising treatment on link pins, and the heat treatment of rollers, pins, and plates
  • Open design of inner links increase mud shedding ability
  • Mushrooming of the pins gives unsurpassed side-plate retention, enabling the chain to far exceed the BS/ISO standard for breaking force
  • Chain is optimised for Shimano 10-speed HG-X MTB drivetrains only
  • Sil-Tec surface treatment technology (PTFE plating) that is smooth running and increases durability
  • Corrosion-resistant Zinc-alloy plating and grey finish on inner and outer plates
  • Links: 114
  • Weight: 273g

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 39 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by duradera la cadena hg 75 es mas dura que los otros modelos, los eslabones son mas duros y puede hacerle mas kms a la cadena sin desgastar mucho la transmisión 22 October 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by BUENO, BONITO Y BARATO Que voy a decir de esta cadena, pues nada más que maravillas, cambia bien, dura y no desgasta el casette prematuramente. 15 October 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Works perfectly What can you say about a chain, works well. Only criticism is that the reinforced joining pin can be a pain to get back in with cheaper chain tools. 15 October 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Buen precio La calidad de Shimano y como siempre a buen precio. 13 October 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Junk Just mounted this chain up today. On the trail maybe 5 minutes and it completely exploded on my first climb. I was using a KMC missing link, and it blew 10-12 links away from that, so that was a non-issue. I'm a light rider, and in the proper gear well before the climb - it should not have happened. Bottom line, you want a chain that can give you confidence. Not have to think about. As generally, busted chains end up with knees or nads hitting your bars and stem!!! OUCH! Hoping CRC will flow me a chain after sending them the scoop and a picture. Not worth sending back and paying shipping that will cost as much as the chain did originally. 13 October 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not new Receievd without original box and no pin. Pin already installed on chain. Seems taken off a bike. Chain snapped on my second ride on it. No doubt on shimano's quality but i got a used piece. Bought this before and it comes with pin and original Shimano box 11 October 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by best chain around for the price i use this chain with a kmc quick link for ease of removal and cleaning. this chain provides great shifting and is very durable. 06 October 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Sigh So having purchased all new XT components I thought I will also get the XT chain, snapped 2 times, not on the joined link or later the power link in less then 3 months. I ride hard and a lot but to be honest expected more from the reviews! Back to KMC for me!!! However maybe just bad luck. 05 October 2014

Answer:
Its unlikely you will need 116 as it you are running a single ring (and only a 32 tooth) at the front, however if you are unsure buy the 116 and you have the extra links which you can always remove with a chain splitter.

Answer:
FS og HT? 116 links should do. Measure biggest chainring front and biggest chainring back (no deraileur) and add two links. Beware of possible need for extra links due to suspension.

The number of links the chain has depends on your bikes drive train. Some drive trains need longer chains than others and you choose accordingly to what your bike needs.

Answer:
2 links at the risk of sounding obvious - they are usually always too big. The 116 is usually for triple front ring hardtail/full suspension setups, the 114 for hardtails single and double ring full suspension setups. to know how many links you need before you remove the excess you put the chain on the largest cog on the rear cassette and the largest ring on the front.

The weight per link is lower for starters. The HG95 is optimised for XT drivetrains and has directional links the pins are also hollow. Its a bit lighter overall and lasts a little longer perhaps.

Answer:
No its a Shimano chain hence no Sram Powerlink though you can fit one if you wish. You will still need a chain splitter/chain tool to remove the right amount of links for your bike - or if fitting a Powerlink - to make sure the ends fit together. You will need a chain tool to put the pins back in the chain securely.

Answer:
Chains are always initially sized to be a bit longer than a drivetrain requires.

The 2013 Nukeproof Mega AM with the suggested drivetrain will require roughly 104/108 Links; however different setups can vary in chain length to fine tune the chain tension, for this reason it is always better to have a few extra links to work with when installing a chain.

The 116 Link chain is the suggested option.
