Rated 5 out of 5 by firme, de buen ver, rápido y presiso. 19 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Gotta love XT While these things seem delicate and they hang out down there in the mud and take all kinds of abuse, they're surprisingly durable. Over 20 years I've had a bunch of XT mechs and I've never had one fail (crashes don't count). The 9 speed is particularly good. While I don't think it can be beaten, there are 2 things I wish they'd do: First, there should be a clutch version. The world's moved on I know, and Shimano obviously doesn't see the point in updating a mech that belongs to an old-school setup. But still, it'd be nice. Second, jockey wheels are too expensive. As I said, these things go forever, the only part I've managed to kill, is the plastic wheels which eventually wear to points. If you could replace the Jockey wheels when you replaced the chain, or the cassette, a single derailleur could last forever. But the cost of replacing the 2 wheels is roughly the same as a new mech! Still, at CRC prices, I guess you can just replace the whole thing. Against SRAM, Shimano win on durability and looks for me. Against Deore, I'd spring for XT, it's a whole lot nicer for not much more money. And agains't XTR, I'd still stay with XT. I've seen the carbon cages on XTR shatter. The XT alloy is tougher, you can bend it if you have to, it's only a few grams heavier and a whole lot cheaper. 13 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This RD shifts the chain smoothly and with ease... I was previously using Deore and I noticed that the spring of XT plays well and lighter to adjust. I previously have an alivio shifter - deore RD combination and had some problems on shifting. I noticed that with both XT RD and XT trigger shifter, it works very well to the point of shifting 4 cogs in just 1 complete swing. 10 August 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by Buen producto Componete de una calidad evidente y muy buena funcionalidad 30 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Robust and responsive Very responsive to use and has not become corroded after 2 months of weekly use and total neglect with regards cleaning. I found it easy to set up initially and it has still not needed adjustment. 02 March 2014

Answer:
There's not a lot of difference besides the length of the swing arm. Depending on what you are wanting to do with it is! If you are running a 3 x9 or 2x9 drive train I would use a long cage with a 11-36 cassette, you could use a medium on a 2x9 if your rear cassette was 11-28. If you were looking at 1x9 then a medium cage. That would be on a hardtail. If you're talking full sus, then you might need to take the amount of travel into account as well. Theres loads of info on the internerd written by better peeps than me, but i hope this helps!

Answer:
The length of cage is generally determined by the number of chainrings on your front crank;

If you have a single chainring up front, you can use a Short Cage
If you have a double chainset, you can use Medium Cage
If you have a triple chainset, you can use Long Cage.

Pretty sure the 08 S-Works Stumpy ran a triple chainset as standard, so the Long Cage derailleur should be fine.

Answer:
Tiagra is a road component while XT is MTB. Shimano recommmend not mixing these components together, although the cable pull and spacing is very similar, so it would work. For optimum shifting performance though, you should match Road with Road and MTB with MTB.

Answer:
Yes, for a triple ring chainset the Long cage mech is the correct choice. As a general rule of thumb, single ring chainsets can run a short or medium cage, doubles can run medium cage (or some short cages, depending on the cassette ratios) and triples will run Long Cage.
