Pair it with the shifter below, choose a cassette to your liking, play with the adjustment screws a little, and just enjoy the ride! A good, reliable rear mech at this price is a bargain anyways. Unless you have a really good reason to get an expensive XTR, I suggest you go for this one! 08 February 2014

Answer: 
There's not a lot of difference besides the length of the swing arm. Depending on what you are wanting to do with it is! If you are running a 3 x9 or 2x9 drive train I would use a long cage with a 11-36 cassette, you could use a medium on a 2x9 if your rear cassette was 11-28. If you were looking at 1x9 then a medium cage. That would be on a hardtail. If you're talking full sus, then you might need to take the amount of travel into account as well. Theres loads of info on the internerd written by better peeps than me, but i hope this helps!

Answer: 
The length of cage is generally determined by the number of chainrings on your front crank;

If you have a single chainring up front, you can use a Short Cage
If you have a double chainset, you can use Medium Cage
If you have a triple chainset, you can use Long Cage.

Pretty sure the 08 S-Works Stumpy ran a triple chainset as standard, so the Long Cage derailleur should be fine.

Answer: 
Tiagra is a road component while XT is MTB. Shimano recommmend not mixing these components together, although the cable pull and spacing is very similar, so it would work. For optimum shifting performance though, you should match Road with Road and MTB with MTB.

Yes, for a triple ring chainset the Long cage mech is the correct choice. As a general rule of thumb, single ring chainsets can run a short or medium cage, doubles can run medium cage (or some short cages, depending on the cassette ratios) and triples will run Long Cage.

Le sconsigliamo l'utilizzo di un deragliatore 9 velocità su un pacco pignoni da 8 velocità. Lo spazio che vi è tra ogni pacco pignone è differente tra la cassetta ad 8 velocità e quella da 9 velocità.
