Rated 5 out of 5 by Без лишних проблем Легок в установке и настройке. Также стабилен в работе. 15 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Шикарный переключатель с очень мощной пружиной, которая просто "заколачивает" цепь на нужную звезду. Работает, как швейцарские часы в любых условиях: в грязи, с большой нагрузкой при подъеме и т. п. Рекомендую.)))) 13 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Never fail I've never killed one. Not even in a crash. XT's front mech design seems a bit brutal, they lack the finesse of rear mechs but you can't argue with their functionality. Agains't SRAM, well, I haven't broken or worn one of those out either I guess. But XT's my go-to. Agains't the rest of the Shimano range, I'd stick with XT. It's only a couple of dollars more than the lower tier offerings for something that'll most-likely outlast your bike. And XTR is usually a LOT more expensive for not a lot of noticeable difference. For weekend warriors through to hardened XC racers, XT is the sweet spot. 13 August 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Possible metal defect? After upgrading from my bike's stock LX and suffering from slow shift response, I had high expectations for the XT. The shift response was much better at the start however decreased after the first year. Now after a year and a half, the derailer has split in two at the weld joint witihn the cage. Never heard of this before and looking forward to see what Shimano says about it. 05 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Shimano Quality Its a front Shimano XT Mech, it does everything you need it to do and it does it well just as good as the XTR but without the price tag!! 19 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by надежность, качество! Отличный переклюк! Жесткая пружина, четкие переключения, легкий вес, надежность! 09 July 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by xt mech nice bit of kit, had to remove bottom bottle cage boss on frame to fit correctly no probs setting it up, had to fit new g/change cable as upgrading from alivio mech, well priced, got it quick, thanks crc 23 June 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Sleek lightweight at precise, Works well with my outdated XT 9speed system, smooth and precise, what you come to expect from the XT range 21 June 2014

will this work for an eight spead set up?

I have a Specialized FSR Elite from 1998. Awesome to ride and moves really well I don't need a 9 or 10 spead so I'm hoping to keep it to the old standard of 8spead. Will this do the trick or can someone recommend something thatwill or is better. I don't care if it's SRAM or Shimano both are good if you get the right gear. Cheers. Please in English, I see someone earlier has answered a similar question but in Russian I think. Thank you all the same for taking the time out to answer, but it doesn't help me cause I can't read it and I don't know any Russians sadly. Thank you in advance, Andy

Answer:
The previous answer (in russian) was a community reply and if a questions is asked in English, we will always answer in the same language :)

Unfortunately as a 9-speed derailleur traditionally runs with a narrow 9-speed chain; using it as part of an 8-speed drivetrain would not be advised.

We have an 8-speed option as listed below.

Answer:
Hi, there are so many Russian language comments/questions that it will be worth your while to translate them. Just search for "google translate", copy and paste, and success! I would give you the exact url but its forbidden by CRC.

The Shimano XT M771 Conventional 9sp is, as it says, only for 9 speed. The 10 speed likewise. You don't give enough information to enable anyone to point you in the right direction re alternatives. You would need to supply information regarding the down-tube diameter and number of rings (and teeth) of the chain-set, etc. If you use the drop-down menus at the top of the CRC homepage to find what you need- e.g MTB, Components, Derailleurs; and then use the menus on the left to refine your search; that will work for you. Good luck!

Answer:
Yes; this mech can run a 44t or 48t outer ring with a 20t capacity (so the inner ring cannot be more than 20t smaller than the outer), so a 28-38-48 setup will be fine.
