Rated 3 out of 5 by Good while it lasts... It is easy to fit and operates smoothly, not sure the durability is that great though. I go out in all weather, but I don't do a huge amount of miles and I'm not that fast either and this failed in under two years. If I was a more serious rider I think it would've failed a lot sooner. Also, I would recommend you replace it at the first signs of play, I didn't and it wore a groove into my crank arm, not sure if this will have a negative effect on how long the replacement BB will last as they seem to be an interference fit. 05 September 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by What you expect for the cash Cheap and does the job for about 6 months......... 27 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by worth paying the extra for XT I had used a deore bb that came with the chainset on my bike, lasted a few months riding in all weathers. XT bb fitted and see how long this one lasts, looks to have better seals over standard deore bb. From other reviews they last a long while, lets see if this is true when the winter weather comes. i will at some point try the xtr bb on my bike to see if this is even better. 04 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Xt at this price you can't go wrong This is my 2nd xt bb first lasted over 12 months and had a lot of wet muddy rides so was pleased it lasted that long. 02 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 Great price and quality Usual Shimano quality and great price. Used to replace an expensive Raceface Bottom Bracket that had died. Recommended 27 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Does what it should Went for the XT to replace my Deore version of this which failed quite quickly. Very smooth and no flex, feels better than the Deore. 27 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ridden in all weathers with no maintenance. Great product for the money, I was given the previous one second hand and it still lasted for 3 years on my bike. 20 July 2014

Answer:
The Shimano Hollowtech bottom brackets are universal between all the Hollowtech cranksets as they share the same spindle and interface.

This means you can use this bottom bracket with your Hone cranks.

The XT/SLX/Zee just distinguishes the quality of the BB compared to others Shimano have available.

Answer:
As long as your Hone cranks use a 24mm spindle you'll be fine and Shimano HTII BB's are all swappable so no issues there.

Interchangeability with SM 51 BB

Hi,

My Mountain bike currently has a Shimano Bottom Bracket with the marking SM51 BB HI. I think it's probably the Shimano Deore Bottom Bracket which you're selling for £8.99. It's now stiff and needs replacing and I would like to upgrade. Will this one fit as a direct replacement with my Deore cranks. How is this one better than my existing cheaper Bottom Bracket?

Many thanks.

Answer:
It will replace your BB51 indeed. No need to worry- if your cranks are HTII then all HTII specific bottom brackets will fit as they are interchangeable.

The XT/SLX bottom bracket (SM-BB70) that you are considering to upgrade with has better bearings and slightly better seals. That simply translates into longer lifespan and resistance to the elements.

Answer:
The BB51 is the Deore level bracket, yes. These XT level brackets will also be compatible and work well as an upgrade to the original. The only real difference between the various brackets is the materials and bearings used, which helps to reduce weight and add longevity. There are also aftermarket options such as the Hope brackets, which are made as a direct upgrade to the standard Shimano bracket.

mountain or road ?

Is this bracket for a road bike or a mountain bike, I have seen on another web site mountain clearly written on the cups but its not visible in the picture here.
I need to replace my own shimano xt holo tec bottom bracket and I want to ensure that I order the correct one.
My current cups don't have mountain written on them so I may have fitted the wrong ones last time.

Answer:
Yes; this bottom bracket will be a perfect replacement for your XT cranks.

Not all Shimano bottom brackets state Road or Mountain on them; however the Road BB-cups are slightly larger which becomes obvious when adjusting the chainline after setup. They will also generally be sold in reference to the model number which signifies what discipline they are intended for.

BB5700 1.37 x 24

Hi, I'm looking to replace the bottom bracket on my road bike as the current one has developed an annoying clicking noise. The markings on my current one are BB5700 1.37 x 24. Would this XT bottom bracket fit?

Answer:
BB5700 man's that you're running 105 series nbottom bracket and 1.35x24 tpi is just a thread descriptor which is a universal ISO (British) thread.

If your bike has got a HollowTechII specific crankset (in your case 10d HTII) then it will fit perfectly fine. However if I was you I'd use a road specific BB as this is a mountain bikes specific bottom bracket.

Will this fit a Specialized FSR XC 2006 which currently has either the UN-25, 113mm spindle, 68mm English BB or the BB-ES30 118mm, 68mm English.

I am looking to upgrade my parts with Deore XT and looking at this for BB.

It will do just fine.

But remember that you will have to ensure that your new crankset is HollowTechII compatible. It will not work with your old crankset as it does not have an axle.

This BB will suit frames that have a 73mm threaded bottom bracket shell. This will allow you to fit an MTB Shimano Hollowtech II Chainset standard.

Answer:
Not being a Trek dealer I can't be certain, but I believe the 2008 Ex8 frame would be running a standard 68/73mm BSA threaded bottom bracket shell, so this XT bracket should be fine, and will run with your 24mm spindle Deore cranks. If you double check with your local dealer they will be able to confirm for you.

Answer:
You could use a cheap Shimano Hollowtech II BB but the issue is that these don’t last very long. You really get what you pay for with Bottom Brackets.
Try this for a cheap solution, not the greatest but will work….for a time:

Answer:
If I'm not mistaken Solum is Spanish BB which means that it will not fit. You'll need a spanish BB for your frame. They're not as cheap but they're considered better than standard threaded BB (subject to bearing obviously).
