Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Excellent! Smooth quick shifts and durable... I've used this on my DH bike and my AM bike and it's still going strong after about 3-4 years. 28 January 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Sin embalaje.
10 September 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great but fragile This rear mech is great as long as the trail is clear. As soon as the terrain get rough, you run the risk of the carbon cage breaking. Shifting couldn't be sweeter on this thing, but if you ride rough rocky terrain it will not last long. 10 June 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Does the business but poorly designed Great mech for shifting but poorly designed. The bracket axle unit is the weak point. It is so weak that this will break ahead of the rear hanger. Also it is very hard to find the replacement part and 99% of local bike dealers will say the whole rear mech will need to be replaceded because Shimano reps will say the part cant be sourced and in most countries this is the case. If you ride on flat tracks with no chance of sticks and rocks hitting the rear derailleur then you should be fine with no problems. 2 stars for crap design. 20 November 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by If you've got money to burn. Sure they weigh nothing ...trouble is, they break at the bottom end of the swingarms. Went down to my local bike shop to see if I could get a part, he pulled out a box of them mostly broken in the same place, and told me that you can get the part for 90% of the whole deraleur. 19 November 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by must buy smooth running , good looks , light . my only problem is that i snapped it in half somehow , still buying another one tho . 09 May 2011
Rated 3 out of 5 by The carbon arm is too flexible and the protective cage at the bottom breaks off. If the going gets tough this one is too soft. Same thing happened twice to me. Rather opt for the M970 with the aluminium alloy arm. Much more durable. If weight is not a big consideration go XT. 22 February 2011

Yes; the M972 runs the Rapid-Rise technology so should be fine as a direct replacement to your existing M960
