Race day is all about maximum output and maximum efficiency—putting everything you've trained for into the race, and leaving it all out on the racecourse. The new XTR Race pedals connect riders to their bike like never before, maximizing the renowned strength and stiffness of XTR cranks with complementary XTR Race pedals, which use wider bearing placement for ultimate rigidity under load. These new pedals boast four times the shoe/pedal contact area as the previous generation XTR pedal, helping channel every ounce of effort to the rear wheel.
This refined design retains all the time-tested and race-proven functionality SPD is famous for, and adds a slimmer axle profile to reduces weight and increase mud shedding capability. This new pedal also provides a lower and more biomechanically correct platform height, which more efficiently transfers power into the drivetrain while picking up precious millimetres of ground clearance at the same time.
Simply put: XTR Race SPD is the most efficient and controllable race-day pedal Shimano has ever produced
The racers choice for generations, the original SPD pedal design has been highly evolved into its lightest and most efficient form. PD-M980 reduces pedal height while increasing pedal to shoe contact

Tacto en el anclaje y desanclaje muy bueno. Tenía antes los Xt pero estos son más finos y algo más ligeros.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Air9 leak grease
After 6 weeks and 300 km on my mtb these pedals have started to leak grease onto the pedal spindle. On closer examination the rubber seals had become unseated from the inside bearings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JasonLeBlanc Best pedal - worth the money
These pedals are by far one of, if not the best XC MTB pedals. Pretty light considering their overall size and shape. Super durable, these will last at least 2 years before any significant loss of spring tension can be noticed. I upgraded to these from the previous version (m970) and they feel quite similar, but the new ones are lighter and provide a bit better power transfer (hard to really notice in my opinion). The seals in these pedals are very good as well, keep all the junk out and the grease in - I never rebuild mine, the springs go soft before they need it usually.
I would choose SPD over lighter counterparts (like crank bros eggbeaters) regardless of weight savings because of the amazing fit. These pedals hold your feet like nothing else, and power transfer is flawless.
Also the adjustability of the tension is a nice feature missing from many other pedal systems. TIP: back off the tension in your pedals for long term storage to help prevent the springs from going soft.

Rated 1 out of 5 by XCBenno Steady decline in quality
To be fair, XTR has never been very exotic in terms of weight or cosmetics but fuctionally has always been number 1 in my books.
Unfortunately the best pair of mtb pedals shimano made were the 959's. It has been a steady decline in quality since. The latest 980's have all but eliminated Shimano from the high-end pedal market.
My pedals lasted one season of pretty mild use. The engagement/disengagement is terrible. Sometimes you don't fully engage, sometimes you don't fully disengage. Sometimes they feel the need to eject you at very bad times.
Before I could even hope that they would break in and become smoother, they simply broke. The bearing assemblies on both pedals pretty much disintegrated.
No point paying the weight penalty if the function and reliability isn't there.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Gfba Very poor Shimano product, avoid.
After 6 weeks and 600 miles on my winter road bike these pedals have started to leak grease onto the pedal spindle. On closer examination the rubber seals had become unseated from the inside bearings. I have used Shimano spd pedals since their inception and have experienced at least 5 years service from previous models. I read the other negative reviews before I purchased but found them hard to believe for a Shimano pedal .These XTR pedals will soon be removed to be replaced by the much more dependable XT model.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Braco Muy buena calidad con un precio algo caro
Si no lo llego a haber comprado por Chain Reaction, no lo hubiera comprado. La calidad es muy buena y el peso bastante decente, pero como ya digo, sino estubiesen al 43% de descuento no hubiera sido una buena compra.
