If you expect every bit as much out of your equipment as you invest in your training, then you’re in the right place. The new XTR Race group doesn’t just ask to be pushed at race pace, it demands it.

Shimano’s first-ever off-road double-ring crank rewards those who ride with a sense of urgency.

This new thoroughbred kit is starts with Shimano's first-ever off-road two-ring race crank, which comes in carefully calculated CloseStep gear combinations to match riders' individual style, terrain, and horsepower. With Primary Driving Gear choices—not to mention an optional, Herculean 44-tooth ring intended for pros only—the only factor limiting how fast you can go is how much power you can produce.

And despite weighing in under 700 grams, this purpose-built race crank maintains all the pipe billet steel-axle strength and cold-forged Duraluminium durability that XTR cranks are famous for.

It all adds up to mindlessly fast shifting, and gives racers fewer excuses for losing and even more ways to win. It’s not for everyone, but for those up to the challenge, XTR Race delivers like never before.

The XTR Race M985 double-ring crank complements race-day performance with a narrow Q-factor, unparalleled power transfer and CloseStep chainring options to suit racers’ speed and style.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Spoiling the ship for a ha'p'orth of tar..... Of all the XTR kit I have, this has been the least impressive. Yes its light, stiff and looks the biz, but is not that much lighter than my old XT, and marks easily. Much worse however is the fact that when riding in Cyprus I started to get serious chain suck (not great for my carbon frame), not to mention poor derailleur alignment. On closer inspection on return from my ride I find that all of the chain ring bolts were loose to the point that the smaller ring could move about 1-2mm and the chain was getting stuck between rings. I have never known this before and would hope that for such an expensive piece of high end kit that Shimano could have stretched to a dab of threadlock on the bolts. Still the best but disappointing - I hope its a blip Shimano! 29 June 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by M970 -> M985 I did an upgrade from the old xtr. 2 x 10 This system is so good it's worth every cent paid. If you can top with components, even better. This new system xtr is better and more practical to install than m 970. The design is unbeatable in my opinion. 07 March 2011

Since swaping to a full XTR 2x10 setup i keep losing the chain from the big ring.
It always happens taking up the drive after free wheeling(downhill or rock gardens e.t.c.).
BB spacing is correct as is set up of front and rear mech.

I am only using a shadow mech not the plus version.

I did not have problems with my old 9 speed triple.

Answer:
The likely issue causing the chain drop is that the rear mech cage is too long.

When changing from a triple to a double crankset; a shorter mech cage is required to keep chain retention.

Please provide some additional information on your drivetrain setup (and photos if if helps) to our Technical Department below and we will be happy to help.

Significa che il movimento centrale non è compreso nella confezione. L'unica guarnitura che non comprende il movimento centrale è quella con pedivelle da 175mm. In tutte le altre è compreso.
