Shimano XTR RT99 Ice-Tech CL Disc Rotor

Nobody puts more thought into brake rotors than Shimano, and the SM-RT99 XTR Race Centerlock Rotor is proof of that. The hybrid steel and aluminum construction saves weight and manages heat buildup. Even better, it's been topped off by Shimano's lightweight and user-friendly Centerlock hub/rotor interface. Now, you may be wondering what IceTech construction actually means, or then again, why it matters? Basically, IceTech rotors consist of two stainless steel braking tracks that are bonded to an aluminum inner-core.

XTR SM-RT99 Ice Tech rotors providing consistent braking performance through energy control, using revolutionary stainless steel / alloy 3-layer sandwich construction that manages heat while riding. The clad steel / alloy / steel rotor construction allows heat generated from braking to radiate quickly through the aluminium core achieving surface temperature drops of around 50 deg C. When used with Ice Tech pads surface temperatures can drop from around 400 to 300 deg C, this provides great improvements in performance all round.

Features:

  • FREEZA rotors allow the alloy core to extend out from the braking surface as a fin to providing added cooling
  • Ice Tech rotors achieve long pad life, less noise and less fade due to improved heat dispersion
  • Rotors are durable lightweight and rigid, using the proven Shimano Centre-Lock system giving increased strength and security with an easy set-up
  • Precision cut and drilled braking surface improves pad clearing in muddy conditions while aiding cooling under high load
  • Large alloy spider is a highly rigid and lightweight support for the rotor surface
  • Super polished braking surface gives excellent braking performance
  • Average weight 126 g for 160 mm

Answer:
The M800 hub requires a specific oversized CenterLock engagement only found within the M800 groupset. Unfortunately this rotor does not have the correct CenterLock Mount to make it compatible.

Answer:
While the depth of the braking profile will be similar to other shimano rotors it may work with various calipers (such as the new SLX, Zee, XT and XTR), but this rotor is only listed as suitable for the Shimano M820 brakes.

Does that come in 6-bolt version?

I don't have Shimano Hubs, so I suppose I need the 6-bolt version?

I have seen the other Ice-Tech rotors (for instance the RT86), but they don't seem to have the fins. Does Shimano produce this RT99 rotor (with the fins) in 6-bolt version?

Thanks

Answer:
At present, only the RT99 has the additional rotor fins that I'm aware of; the Ice-Tech technology (as far as the rotor is concerned) is found in the 3-layer construction of the rotor. The RT86 is the only Ice-Tech 6-bolt rotor we currently have..

Answer:
The rotor itself will run with the M775 caliper, although the cooling benefit is not there unless ran with the Vented Brake Pads; these unfortunately are not compatible with this caliper.

Answer:
Compatibility is not ideal with this setup. Ideally the Ice Tech rotors need to be used with Shimano calipers which also use Vented Rotors to gain the benefits of Ice Tech heat venting.
