Answer:
Yes; Shimano 10sp Road shifters and derailleurs can be used with each other in most instances. The Ultegra 7800 and 7900 shifter/mech should work fine together.

Answer:
SRAM have addressed rider feedback and applied a small clutch system improvement and bearing upgrade to improve overall performance and longevity.

In terms of frame fitting and function; there have been no changes, but the upgrades will be more noticeable over time.

Answer:
The jockey wheels would need changing when they start to 'drag', however you should try servicing the bearing in them first. Strip them, then clean, re-grease and fit again to determine if they are once again spinning freely.

Note that most modern derailleurs will have jockey wheels which will not spin extensively as they are designed to run smooth.

If you are unsure or require more advice on bearing service or even advice on what replacements are compatible; please email our Technical Department below:

I have a 2006 Trek 1200 triple ring with a 9 speed12-26 tiagra cassette, chain etc and a 105 rear derailleur. I have on order from you a 9 speed 12-27 ultegra cassette and chain but yesterday fell off and bent my 105 derailler. Will a 105 10 speed derailleur fit my 9 speed set up and what size cage do i need?

Answer:
Running a 10-speed derrrailleur within a 9-speed drivetrain is not ideal and the mechanical problems it poses are not worth the combination.

It would be advised to run a 9-speed rear derailleur; however at present the only option we have is as listed below.

Rear Derailleur XT M780 Shadow

I have a 2012 Giant Anthem with a XT Shadow rear derailleur M780 on it , have these been phased out? would a XT Shadow M781 fit? I assume I need a long cage as the bike is a 20 speed with a 11-36t sprocket on the rear.

Answer:
The M780 is no longer in production and has been replaced with newer models.

Ideally the M786 Shadow+ model would be a better option, it is of a similar price and also has an integrated clutch mechanism which aids shifting and increases chain retention.

Likely the Medium Cage derailleur would be fine when using a Double Crankset, however if you would like more advice on this; please email our technical department below.

I have a 77 Motobecane Super Mirage I am restoring and would like to install indexed shifting. I have the Shimano SL-BS68 barend shifters and a Suntour Cog 14-32T and a 40-52T Chainring. I assume the 105 will play nicely with both ends, but I wanted confirmation before ordering. Thanks. dl

Answer:
A 14/32 and 40/52 setup gives a gear capacity of 30t, so the 105 GS rear derailleur should be happy enough and work fine on the Shimano Bar-end shifters.
