Rated 5 out of 5 by 26 June 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Full Protection Got these for a 28" commuter bike with the U-stays. The extra money for the stays is definitely worth it otherwise they do shake around a bit. Instructions are very limited as in a couple of pictures. They provide a lot of bolts and fittings. However I found the bolts for the stays were either too short or ridiculously long which meant I just used some of my spare bolts. Overall though when they on they are great and offer fantastic protection very happy! 06 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by great middle ground mudguard I am often frustrated by reviews, often a good product is slated, when simply the reviewer is backing the wrong horse on the wrong course. Back when I started cycling, there was racing and touring, for touring it was long frame, long brakes, long gear cages and long mudguards whilst for the racers it was all in short. with cars increasingly expensive to run, recent british successes in racing and cycling has found its self popular yet again, not the racing clubs filling with aspiring Bradleys, or mountain bikers dreaming of far off rocky trails, but as a means of transport, where real life practicality counts, speed, comfort, reliability for commuting, shopping, days out etc. These guards find themselves nicely in that middle ground, looking a little sporty, neither full nor short, but in the middle, a bonus for me, that open back end allows unhindered wheel removal of the wheel from the track ends of my fixed wheel On One Pompino. The fitting kit includes many parts to help with a variety of frame designs, although I still opted for using a couple of zip ties, the stay kit I wuld say is essential to keep the guards in good shape around the wheel and stop any flapping. They offer good protection with full length front, and the sporty rear clips ow on the frame, under the brake bridge and exits beyond my rear rack, protecting me, my bike and luggage. On this occasion I backed the right horse, one friend has already gone on to buy 2 sets for his bikes, and another is now looking seriously at them 18 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Robust, easy to fit, good value Bought after realising the rear mudguard on my commuting bike was too short and I was getting soaked in wet weather. These guards (with the extra U-stays) were easy to fit with plenty of adjustment possible, and fit with no rattles or wheel rubbing, and they feel pretty robust. I won't say I'm looking forwards to my next wet commute, but at least I won't get quite as wet now... 12 October 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good value Good value mudguards. Installed on the bike I use to commute to work. Had to drill a hole in the frame to install the rear mudguard. U-stays could have been a lot lighter, but oh well. Overall recommended. 22 June 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very good, light mud guards. For me it's best choice because I don't like to ride with mud guards and this ones are very easy to remove, so when it's dry they just stays home:) , but in heavy rain they keeps me dry and most of my frame(except of bottom bracket). 03 January 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by excellent set, looks good. A great set for urban use, fits easy and looks great, stays are very sturdy. I have theme fitted to a hybrid mountain bike,26" wheels x 37mm tyres. Looked around at a lot of other types and feel these to be the best and great value for money. 30 October 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by good kit These guards are well made in resistant, lightweight plastic. They fit on with two rather heavy, industrial brackets. Note that the rear requires a hole through the brake bridge for fitting and the bracket will not fit if you only have a hole below the bridge. The brackets don't use up much space between the guard and the tyre although on my bike the 40mm wide Schwalbe Marathon tyres occasionally scuffed the guard. Check your bike for clearance (a rough guide is that a tyre is as wide as it is tall. They do wiggle around a little at the ends but that's the price you pay for having decent-length, removable guards. The optional fixing stay at the rear would sort that out but would remove the clip-on facility. You can bend the bracket to get the guard to follow the curve of the tyre and so they don't look obtrusive or stick out. Altogether a decent bit of kit which I have just used in the wilds of Montenegro with favourable results. 03 September 2011

Answer:
The U-Stays are the wire legs shown in the picture. These are optional and when used give extra security and stability to the fitted mudguard.

Answer:
700x23 are within the parameters of these mud guards.

The clearance will depend on your frame design.

Answer:
These mud guards are for 28" wheels and would not sit close enough to a 26" wheel to be effective.

Answer:
These guards are 42mm wide and claims a max tyre width of 37-42mm, but I wouldn't suggest much beyond a 40c / 1.5" to ensure good clearance.

Fitment to a Boardman MX Comp 2014?

Will these mudguards fit a Boardman MX Comp 2014?

My specific areas of concern are:

-700c X 37 tyre size
-Suntour front forks (not fixed forks)
-Disc brakes front and rear

Will these mudgaurds fit with the above in mind? Do I need them with or without the U-stays?

Answer:
These guards can mount to your frame with the U-stays being an optional 'Quick Release' extra.

Without the U-stays you would have to bolt the lower guards to the frame eyelets. With the U-stays; they bolt to the eyelets then the guard clips into place making removal easier.
