Speedplay Zero Chromoly Pedals

The performance features of the Speedplay Zero Pedal System read like a pro racer's wish list. No other pedal system comes close to offering the superior adjustability or cutting-edge performance features of the Zero. By thinking "outside the box", we created and patented the most technically advanced pedal system ever, featuring your choice of either a fixed position or up to 15 degrees of micro-adjustable float. Once you compare the features of Zero pedals to any other brand, you'll find that other pedals systems are no match. And like all Speedplay pedals, we accomplish this without compromise by ensuring that the locking edges of our pedals and cleats are made of metal, not plastic. What more needs to be said? How about Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, Paris-Roubaix, Amstel Gold, Paris-Nice, World Time Trial Championship, Tour of Germany, Tour of California, Tour de Georgia, Hawaii Ironman World Championship and the countless other races that have been won by champions using Zero pedals. Speedplay Zero Pedal Systems are simply the winningest road pedals on the planet.

Speedplay Zero Chromoly Pedals Features:

  • Dual-sided entry: The symmetrical double-sided pedal self-locates just by stepping down into the cleat whether the pedal is right side up, upside down or anywhere else in its rotation. No kicking, no fumbling, no looking; just step down and go.
  • Your choice of micro-adjustable float or a fixed position: The Zero allows rotational float to be precisely micro-adjusted to the exact range needed or set in a fixed-position anywhere within the 15-degree adjustment range.
  • All three foot-axis adjustments can be set independently of one another: No other pedal system offers the precise adjustment or convenience of independently adjustable fore-aft, side-to-side, and rotational foot positions. Unlike the inexact set-up of traditional cleats, each of the three critical foot-axis adjustments of Zero cleats can be set or changed without affecting the position of the other two adjustments. This feature also eliminates guesswork and misalignment when replacing cleats.
  • The lowest stack height: The Zero cleat positions your foot closer to the top of the spindle for improved power transfer.
  • 11.5 mm stack height for 3-hole mounting
  • 8.5 mm stack height for 4-hole mounting
  • Unbeatable cornering clearance: The thin pedal profile of the Zero pedal lets you power through corners where your rivals coast.
  • Phenomenal light weight: Chrome-Moly pedal each - 105g
  • Zero cleats per pair - 70g
  • Large, stable pedaling platform: The Zero Pedal System provides the same solid connection as conventional single-sided pedals, but with Speedplay's unique, inverted design the cleat provides the platform once the cleat is engaged.
  • Quality without compromise: Zero pedals use precision cartridge and needle bearings - three of them instead of two found in most other pedals - which allows the Zero to be thinner for a lower stack height, better cornering clearance, and reduced aerodynamic drag. Like all Speedplay Pedal Systems, the locking edges of Zero pedals and cleats are metal-on-metal for durability and safety, unlike our competitors who use engagement edges made of plastic.
  • Fits more shoes: The Zero cleat fits any shoe with a 3-hole or 4-hole mount.
  • Easy maintenance: A built-in grease port for easy bearing lubrication.
  • True locking mechanism: The Zero's locking mechanism does not rely on spring tension for security, so entering and exiting Zero pedals is easy, but unintended release is virtually impossible.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Speedplay all the way! As a complete novice to cycling I didn't really know what to expect from these pedals. I need not have worried. The clip in/out is easy with a little practice and, as mentioned before, it's a heel down action. The shape of the cleat and pedals means that there is only one foot placing, so no thrashing around trying to get going. Whether it will be the same for everyone or not I don't know but if you centrally place the cleat on the shoe (Sidi in my case) it does tend to place the foot quite near the crank. So maybe allow a mill or two. The float feels a bit weird at first, particularly when standing on the pedals, but can be adjusted to suit you. All in all a really great product and thoroughly recommended. 09 June 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great pedals once you've put the time in These pedals/cleats come with step-by-step instructions. Read them. Follow them. Setting up your Speedplay cleats takes a little time and patience, oh and a little threadlocker once you have things just right (look for the blue dots on the screws). The set up allows you to change front-to-back and side-to-side position and to set the amount of float you want from zero up. Take the time to set up properly and you should be able to tailor things to your own specific needs. If you need more flexibility, take a look at the extender plates and the leg length shims ( I use the latter). It takes a little getting used to the step-down entry and it is possible to make this tougher if you over-tighten the cleat screws (the instructions tell you just how far to tighten). Other than that the only downside is when you're off the bike. I recommend picking up the cafe covers to make things easier and save your cleats. 10 May 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Love 'em, once you get used to them. They take a bit of getting used to (after Shimano) but once I did, they are great. Double sided, so no more 'looking down'. Quick to click in and even if you don't on the first attempt, you can still use them as a platform and peddle. 16 April 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great pedals with amazing float. Once you try these pedals you won't go back to another type. I've been riding them for over ten years and currently own five sets. Cleat setup is a little tricky compared to other platforms but that is because they have much more adjustment range than other pedals. I like the ease in which they can be cleaned and lubricated as well. It is very difficult to unclip from these pedals by accident, very easy to clip out when you want to. The only drawback I can provide is that from time to time you will need to clean and lubricate the cleats. 01 November 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by good pedals I got the pedals a month ago and have tried them both indoors on a trainer and outdoors. I have ridden on them two times outside only by now. Each time I am getting used to them more and more. For those who come from Look/SPD-SL pedals – forget about toe down motion. With Zeros clipping in is a bid tricky, you will need to push "heel down" more, not toe. In such case they clip in easier. I have Shimano MTB SPD pedals and unclipping in upper positions is not a problem. With Zeros you need to unclip in low position, then unclipping is fairly easy. A few tips for those who live in dusty/sandy climate - pay extra attention where you put your feet when unclip, be careful with sand. Extra care is required as sand particles might get stuck into the cleats and then create a problem with clipping in (especially if the cleat is over oiled). Suggest you observe the cleats for sand particles after every ride. For the rest, it's a great road pedal. I also found short walking with Zero cleats attached a bid easier than Shimano SPD-SL road, probably because the stack height of Zeros is lower. Fyi, the shoes I am using these pedals with are Sidi Laser (road). 11 June 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great pedals - easier to clip I changed my look keo max 2 for the speedplay. I don´t come back. They are very easy to clip after a few rides to get used to it. Buy the coffee shop caps to protect the cleats. Be careful to walk without the caps because they may sliper. 5 stars. 11 February 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Superb Like many others I looked to speedplay to resolve my knee issues - I had a professional fit with SPDs and Specialized shoes but my knee just kept playing up - well the speedplays arrived last Monday and I have ridden with them everyday to and from work and just had a nice long ride this morning (saturday) - they are simply fantastic - both knees track where they want to and I have left the free float by the third day I forgot the 'skating on ice feeling' and very used to them - they are very solid and feel great to ride - they improve your pedal stroke I reckon..... Even out of the saddle I feel great going up hills etc. So far so good....I will write agin in a few months but if you are at all wondering whether you should get thes or not ....do - the price is worth every penny ! Oh and the fitting of the cleats etc was very easy.....I followed their easy Video guide from their website - very simple and no issues. Coffee caps are essential. Fantastic pedals - which I rode with these years ago.... 20 October 2012
