Rated 4 out of 5 by Good enough. I had this on my bike for about 1-1/2 years. The cassette shifting was clunky before I changed the chain. The derailleur set was Shimano Tourney, so the shifting wasn't that smooth. I changed the chain (previously a KMC Z51 chain) to a KMC X8.93 which was an awesome difference. After changing the chain, the cassette was much smoother and didn't have so much trouble shifting to higher gears (the old chain was ONE link short! Why LBS?!). Despite its price, it seems tough and takes a while to wear down (I ride my bike every day in all seasons: summer, winter, fall, spring). The shifting remained the same until the chain stretched and the 3rd cog wore down. I used the cassette until the 3rd cog was destroyed, but the cassette is still put to use on a 1992-'93 Univega Activa with a new X8.99 chain. The shifting is much better but I still need to replace the whole cluster before I have any problems with the shifting and such. 30 August 2014

Rated 4 out of 5 by Basic but solid cassette Bought this to replace old 7 speed cassette. Works well and has held up fine so far. 07 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by perfect I using 9sp HG73 chain with this 7sp cassette on my full suspension bike and I dont want upgrading to 9sp, no skippings. 7sp FTW 05 July 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by SUPERB 7SP CASSETTE As others have mentioned if you have a "retro" bike and are running 21 sp this is great Shimano equivalent - it wears very well and looks great - not too heavy and great quality. Rebuilding a retro Klein right now and this has a classier look to compliment the frame - thanks SRAM - the only thing id mention is the SRAM box, it has an open front and reckon it could be easy for the lockring and 7th cog to fall out and get lost in a warehouse etc, just rattling about. Usual CRC service :) 03 August 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Great cassette. I've had several over the years which allows me to keep riding my retro bikes. Thanks to SRAM for continuing to make a 32t 7spd cassette for serious mountain biking long after others have stopped. 31 May 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by worked, but not for long I set this up with a KMC 7 speed chain in Dec 2010, by mid may the chain was gone and now two rings are skipping. It's probably the chain's fault, but with at most 2000 miles on them, it's a pretty short life for both the chain and the cassette. 07 June 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by v.good but can clunk ocasially, great val 4 money. 21 June 2006

Answer:
No; just a simple lockring tool is required for fitting. When removing the cassette you may find it easier with a chain whip tool as well.
