X5 Rear 9-Speed Derailleur

1:1 - 1:1 Actuation™ is superior by design. Every unit of cable you pull moves the derailleur the same amount. Actuation stays precise and fluid slogging through mud, bouncing off rocks, rutting through roots — wherever you find yourself, whatever conditions you're in. It's dependable. Tolerant. Easiest to set up. Easiest to adjust. And, not coincidentally, the top choice of the top MTB riders. Got it? Good.

Exact Actuation - When we launched our road technology from scratch we reapplied our MTB proven SRAM 1:1 actuation ratio (shifter cable travel : derailleur movement) for 10 speed rear shifting. EA helps to simplify/stabilize the uneasy act of balancing rear derailleur hanger design, tight cog spacing and exact cable tension. The result: the easiest index shifting system to set up and it stays that way.

MatchMaker Compatible - Save weight and clutter on the bar with MatchMaker. This system holds AVID® levers, a number of SRAM triggers and the RockShox PushLoc control—all with one tidy, light clamp.

X5 Long Cage Derailleur Features:

  • SRAM Exact Actuation for Precise & Dependable Shifting Performance
  • Direct Route Technology For Lighter Effort Shifting.

X5 Long Cage Derailleur Specifications:

  • Material: Alloy B-Knuckle, Alloy Links, High Strength Grilon Composite P-Knuckle
  • Cage: Long
  • 36-Tooth Cassette Compatibility

Rated 5 out of 5 by So much smoother than Shimano at the same price Bought this and the X5 shifters and holy geez what a difference vs. Shimano Deore. Easier gear changes and much smoother. 15 April 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by sram x5 Great product at a great price, fast despatch and fast delivery. Stuck with what was on the bike as sram x5 is a great shifter if your biking on a budget. 04 April 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Good for price but only as good as shimano I upgraded my shimano xt to sram x9 a few months ago. My x9 was fab. Instant changes. However got court in my spokes and snapped. I couldnt afford another x9 so brought the x5 as it was on offer for £25. Good value for £25. Quick set up but doesnt shift as quick as higher model srams and works the same as shimano xt. I would recomend for a spare rear mec or a quick replacement. However if you ride alot or are use to x7,x9 or x0 stick to the model you already have or be disopionted. I dont regret getting it because of the price. Hopfully this one will last longer but i wont be buying x5 again 07 February 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by

NON COMPRATELO!!! NON COMPRATELO!!! NON COMPRATELO!!! NON COMPRATELO!!! NON COMPRATELO!!! 07 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great function at budget price Works virtually the same as the X7, X9 and even the X0. Only main difference is weight saving!! This HAS to be the best mech on the market for people who don't want to spend a fortune, but want outstanding performance 14 September 2013

Answer:
As a general rule of thumb, the number of chainrings on your crankset determines the length of rear cage you will need (as this dictates how much the rear arm needs to be able to move/ reach across). A single ring system can use a Short cage derailleur; a double ring can use Medium, and a triple ring setup can use the Long cage.

Answer:
It depends on the diameter of your cassette (nubber of teeth on the largest cog) and the design of the crankset (single/double/tripple-speed)

Answer:
Further to the advice you already have been given, if you're undecided between cage lengths always go for the longer option. It's far better to use only part of a greater range of movement than not to have enough movement!

Answer:
Depends on the size of your front chain rings.

Normally, if you have 1-2 front chain rings you can go with short, if you have 3 then you need to go with long.

Answer:
This derailleur requires a 9-speed Narrow chain to fit through the cage and ultimately; to shift.

An 8-speed chain will not work with this mech.
