SRAM X7 10 Speed Rear Derailleur Technology:

Direct Route Technology - Here's the dirt on middlemen: they suck. That's why Direct Route Technology™ doesn't have one. Instead, the cable routes directly to the actuation mechanism. Result? Less friction. Less effort. More oomph. Plus it's impervious to cable housing damage.

Exact Actuation - When we launched our road technology from scratch we reapplied our MTB proven SRAM 1:1 actuation ratio (shifter cable travel : derailleur movement) for 10 speed rear shifting. EA helps to simplify/stabilize the uneasy act of balancing rear derailleur hanger design, tight cog spacing and exact cable tension. The result: the easiest index shifting system to set up and it stays that way.

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by MIXED BAG THE RETURN SPRING IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO WORK PROPERLY WITH A 36 TOOTH REAR OR CABLES AND OUTERS THAT ARE NOT 100% CLEAN AND CLEAR. IT WILL NOT SHIFT ACCURATELY. THIS MAY NOT BE A PROBLEM ON A SMALLER 34/32 WHERE THE SPRING DOES NOT GET STRETCHED AS FAR. THE SPRING IS NOTICEABLY WEAKER THAT ANY SHIMANO I HAVE HAD AND MY SHIFTING PROBLEMS DISAPPEARED WHEN I REPLACED IT WITH A SHIMANO. ALSO THE ACTUATOR ARM STICKS OUT TO MUCH AND CATCHES ON EVERYTHING. IT IS LIGHT AND THE ABILITY TO LOCK THE PULLEY ARM FORWARD FOR REMOVING THE WHEEL IS A BRILLIANT IDEA THAT MAKES REMOVING THE WHEEL MUCH EASIER. THE CLUTCH SYSTEM WORKS WELL AND MAKES IT QUIETER. 31 January 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by not always consistent This derailor came stock on my giant reign 2. Works well however it is fairly loud and I've had a lot of problems with the chain and I partially do blame the derailor. For not much more you could purchase a shadow plus design derailor which I would highly recommend. 15 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by great very good piece of kit, very little movement when doing jumps so there isn't an annoying rattling noise going down the trails, fantasticly made 10/10 14 February 2013

Answer:
Due to the cable pull ratio that SRAM shifters use (1:1), they are limited to use with SRAM derailleurs. Shimano shifters and derailleurs use a 2:1 ratio which is not compatible with SRAM components.

A SRAM Type 2 mech would be a considerable upgrade from your current model. It includes the clutch system which increases chain retention, lowers the chance of chain drop and provides smoother; more precise shifting.

Answer:
According to the product description (Short cage 32t, Medium cage 34t, Long cage 36t), the long cage would be appropriate for your 11-36 cassette.
