SRAM X9 2x10sp High Clamp Front Derailleur

Wide range 2X10systems with X-Glide front shifting technology

Specification:

  • Speeds:2X10
  • Material:Steel
  • Outer Cage:Steel
  • Inner Cage:Steel
  • Finish:Black

Compatibilities:

  • 42t - This front derailleur will work with standard 39.26t and 42.28t ratio chainset’s. To adjust for 39t or 42t outer chainrings, the user simply needs to move the derailleur up or down on the seat tube
  • 38t - This front derailleur will work with smaller 36.22t and 38.24t ratio chainset’s used most commonly on trail, freeride or 29er bikes. To adjust for 36t or 38t outer chainrings, the user simply needs to move the derailleur up or down on the seat tube.

Technologies:

  • Exact Actuation - When we launched our road technology from scratch we reapplied our MTB proven SRAM 1:1 actuation ratio (shifter cable travel : derailleur movement) for 10 speed rear shifting. EA helps to simplify/stabilize the uneasy act of balancing rear derailleur hanger design, tight cog spacing and exact cable tension. The result: the easiest index shifting system to set up and it stays that way.
  • X-Glide - X-Glide is the common denominator that gives 2X10 unmatched shifting performance. Four identical upshift locations, ready to be picked up by any outer link. Result? Perfect timing, almost instantaneous shifts, up or down, even under load.

Rated 3 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not as good as an XT or SLX but OK. I bought this because at the time could not get a Shimano alternative. It works ok and is reliable and easy to adjust with big Allen keys instead of flimsy Philips screws. But it needs frequent adjustments (much more so than Shimano!). The design is also open to mud and muck. If dirt gets between the limit screws which it seems to do often, then it won’t drop down or go up smoothly. Rear detailers from SRAM are just fine but the front still needs work to get up to Shimano standards. 05 October 2013

Answer:
Yes; this mech will work ok on a 38t outer ring with your X7/X9 setup. Ideally, you would want the 38t version of SRAM mech (as this is designed with 38/36t outers in mind), such as the X0 linked below.

Answer:
I use 22-36 (Shimano XT chain rings). But can’t see why it shouldn’t take a 24-38. It has plenty of clearance.
