Rated 5 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Like going back in time Haven't bought a front mech for years but this X9 unit is about as good as it gets. It's not clear from the picture but the double-arm pivot makes it something of an animal it's not a mech for shy retiring bikes. A smear of friction paste is useful when installing it so as not to crush the seat tube with the weapons-grade clamp but otherwise it's very straightforward. In use it literally gets the chain in a headlock and throws it on to the smaller ring no messing and likewise in the other direction the chain has no chance it's going onto the bigger ring in a quarter turn of the cranks whether it likes it or not. The X9 cage is quite a bit shorter than the Deore it replaced and on my 2x9 bike it means I was able to position the cage nice and close to the biggest ring it looks proppa professional 26 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by 16 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome What an awesome Front Derailleur. I have been a Shimanno fan for about 4 years but now I have been converted.. SRAM is well priced and brilliant quality. I have replaced all my components to SRAM.. Never thought I would change.. 26 April 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice stiff front derailer, would't expext anything less from a top SRAM product. 15 April 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Chunky but funky Looks good, the silver goes well with my frame, though it is a bit big. Takes a fair bit of abuse on the trails and has a smooth shifting action. Teamed with x9 shifters it will get you in gear first time! Unless like me your LBS sets it up baddly and your stuck in the middle ring! 04 August 2009

Answer:
It appears that as the gear cable travels along the top tube and down the seat tube, that a Top Pull derailleur would be required.

Answer:
Top Pull is generally when the gear cable routes along the Top Tube, down the Seat Tube and pulls on the mech from above.

Bottom Pull is generally when the gear cable routes along the Down Tube, below the Bottom Bracket Shell then up the Seat Tube and pulls the mech from below.
