SRAM X9 Rear Derailleurs 9sp

The X.9 line-up features the same robust qualities and technologies as the X.0 system. If you are looking for greatness in a refined high-performance package then look no further, choose X.9!

1:1 Actuation™ is simply superior. The very nature of its design makes it this way. For every 1 unit of cable pulled or released, the derailleur moves the same amount. Simple? Yes. Dependable and tolerant? The best. Ease of set-up and adjustment? Easiest. This is why the top athletes in the MTB world prefer SRAM. From the mud infested Cross Country of the Sea Otter Classic, to the rocks and roots of a Fort William World Cup Downhill the 1:1 actuation stays precise and fluid. 1:1 Actuation precision is why you find SRAM on the elite bikes from cross-country flyers to full gravity bombers.

Direct Route Technology™:We've been singing the praises of this technology for years. Cut out the middleman, go direct, and speak to the actuation mechanism itself. Direct route technology is light, responsive, precise and impervious to cable housing damage. We have simply reduced the friction by routing the cable directly to the actuation mechanism and less effort means you save the extra push for your ride.

Matchmaker Compatible:Avid Matchmaker compatibility takes your cockpit to a new level of personal customization while losing grams and clutter. Simply mount your triggers and brake levers using one shared clamp with matchmaker hardware. Using a Rockshox pushloc? You can mount that too.

Zero Loss Travel™ defines the degrees of "lost" travel before the cable engages the shifting pawl. The shifting pawl is always engaged with Zero Loss Travel so the moment you push is the moment the shift starts. It is one important characteristic that makes our X.0 and X.9 triggers so impressive. With zero degrees of "lost travel", 1:1 actuation ratio, and SRAM's constant distance geometry, the distinction in our shift is like no other. Quick and calculated. Fast and precise.

SRAM X9 Rear Derailleurs 9sp Features:

  • Stylish and Strong! A forged 6061 aluminium B-Knuckle improves stiffness while the X.9 styling exudes our commitment to quality. X.9 is now available in three cage sizes.
  • World Cup Proven Composite Cage

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 62 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best affordable Mech for DH I'm on my third or fourth of these; perfect actuation every time. I beat the heck out of these, and they keep on ticking .... for a while at least! 18 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wicked rear mech This is one strong built rear mech. Far better than the lower models. Shame the 10speed is much more expensive..since i want one of these for my other bike. excellent value for money., 29 July 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by ottima qualità ad un prezzo conveniente Buona qualità ad un prezzo conveniente. Spedizione puntuale. Nessun problema 13 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Damaged my x7 and went x9, Never looked back! I purchased a X9 after reading some reviews and decided I would go with the 9-speed, Short cage setup. Installation was easy and straight forward, adjustments were made a breeze! The cage sits nicely and is tucked up away from rocks and other trail debris, Im pretty particular on how my bikes ride and I feel for the price this derailleur cant be beat! Pedals smooth, Crisp gear changes, Lightweight, and Durable are some words that come to mind! 01 June 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Solid Decent derailer for the money. Oddly had to shorten my chain when moving from an XO short cage to this model in the same length but no big deal. Reasonably easy to install. 13 May 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by bien mon ancien était plié et avait du jeu, ce nouveau avec chape courte est très bien. 19 April 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 great rear mech it's a little difficult (for me) to set it up, but once done, the shift is fast and very well. short cage is really good for DH use. 27 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Superior quality Bought the x9 to replace my shimano xt . After constantly having to adjust and fine tune the xt (just about after every ride) the SRAM x9 is so much less hassel! Once set up I have had no drama from it, no need to fine tune after every ride or at all for that matter. Floor less shifting even on the roughest terrain. SRAM have got mtb shifters and derailleurs down packed! SRAM yes Shima No! 08 March 2014

Worthwhile upgrade?

In your expert opinion, I have a 2013 boardman comp equipped with SRAM X5 groupset, are the 9 speed x9 components a worthwhile upgrade or do I save up for the X0 level?

Answer:
The X9 groupset offers smoother, more accurate shifting as does the X0 set to a higher level again.

However if you are planning a groupset upgrade then moving from 9-speed to 10-speed would be worth taking into consideration.

For more advise on this upgrade; please contact our Technical Department with your bike/frame information and we can assist further.

Answer:
I would personally say leave it and save up for the type 2 1x10 speed X9 set up I've used both and the 1x10 is the best decision of my life!
if you don't want 10spd then probably just stay with the X-5 it'll do the job and is cheaper to replace if you break it on a rock etc.

Answer:
As a general rule, the number of chain rings on your crank will determine the length of cage you should use
For a single ring system, Short cage is sufficient.
For a double ring system you can use Medium cage.
For a triple ring system you should opt for a Long cage.

There are some combinations of chain ring and cassette where you can use a Medium cage on a triple to get better trail clearance, and others where you will need to use a Long cage on a double to properly accommodate the cassette but in the majority of cases the above guide is fine. If in any doubt or to double check against your exact setup, feel free to contact our Tech team for further help - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/...

Answer:
Due to variation in cable pull ratio; Shimano and SRAM rear shifter/derailleur's are not cross compatible.

The derailleur suggested below would be a good alternative.

Answer:
You will not get effective gearing performance if you are using a 10 speed chainset with 9 speed componentry. There is no guarantee that the drivetrain will provide optimized gearing when shifting due to the 10 speed chainset. The 9 speed derailleur will work fine with a 9 speed cassette and would provide perfect shifting if used with an appropriate speed chainset.
