This crankset will fit any V2 octalink bottom bracket. As long as your Giant Defy 3 runs standard English threading (68/73mm shell width) you can use something like the ES25 or ES51 bracket.

This crank runs the deeper V2 (MTB) octalink standard. You can use an MTB bracket, such as the Shimano ES25

Answer: 
The Sugino RD7000 cranks use the V1 spline type and will work with the Shimano 5500 BB. For a double chainset, you need the 109mm axle.
