The Thomson Masterpiece Seatpost is not for everyone. We at Thomson wanted to create the best seatpost possible without regard to cost. The serious cyclist will want to own the Thomson Masterpiece Seatpost.
Masterpiece posts weigh approx 40 grams less than the same size Elite model post. This weight reduction was accomplished while maintaining the strength and durability expected from a Thomson Seatpost.
Thomson accomplished this weight reduction by machining the seatpost all over--- including the oval inner diameter. We were able to hold closer tolerances by machining than by extrusion alone. Machining all over on an already beautiful design makes the Masterpiece Seatpost a work of art.
Over double the fatigue life of any other production models we tested. The tube and head of the Thomson seatpost are integral-machined from one single piece of high strength 7000 series aluminum. The head is not pressed or bonded in. This allows for superior strength and minimum weight, allowing higher strength at low weights.

We have a long 1.614 inch (41 mm) seat rail grip length. This helps prevent seat rail bending from impact loads. Most brand-x seatposts have grip lengths of .500 inch or more shorter than our grip length.
The Thomson seatpost design incorporates a bending fuse to prevent catostrophic failure. All brand-x seatposts we tested - every one of them - failed in catastrophic failure with the seat and clamp components - and sometimes pieces of the tube and head - flying off in all directions. This type of failure would dump the rider.
The Thomson seatpost has a clamp, head, and upper tube strong enough to withstand 350 foot-lbs of torque. The tube will start to yield and bend at the seat tube clamp at about 250 foot-lbs of torque. Remember all brand-x posts we tested flew apart at less than 150 foot-lbs of torque. Under severe impact the Thomson seatpost would bend slightly but would allow the rider to come to a stop or continue the ride. The ride could continue.

This includes all fasteners and forgings. • The Thomson seatpost has all parts captive and can easily be attached to a seat without disassembly. • Infinite tilt adjustment minus 5° and plus 29°. • Very low profile clamps - no seat interference - swivel nuts are down between the seat rails. • The designs and materials have passed extensive life and ultimate strength tests. • Every production lot of seatposts will have ultimate strength and fatigue tests performed. Our on going testing program insures that every production lot of seatposts meets Thomson standards. • Impact absorbing clamps - clamps, head, and assembly will spread and flex on impact to protect seat, rails, seatpost and rider. • Adjustments can be made to the tilt of the seat without moving the seat forwards or backwards. • Easy on seats - allows seat to survive heavy impact loads without bending rails.

As the title above goes, you pay more for less material. But the weight savings is worth it without having to use a carbon post which would probably cost more. At 190g for the 31.6mm diameter one, its weight puts it almost on par with the ENVE Composites carbon post but at probably half the price.
The machining and detailing on this post is beautiful, I especially liked the angle guide under the seat rail clamp area; it makes setting up and adjusting the saddle offset angle a breeze. The low profile bolts and nuts prevent the bolts from digging into the bottom of the saddle which has happened on some other posts. The longer rail clamp area is a welcome feature that you don't find on other posts. The fittings like the rail clamp saddles to the nuts and bolts are quality stuff.
Both the black and silver colors look fantastic but I went with the black one to match the overall color scheme on my 2010 Scott Scale. This post is a timeless classic that will look great on any bike.
Get it if you don't intend to get a dropper post and if you don't trust carbon posts (like me).

If you want a top quality mountain bike part, you can't really go far wrong with Thomson parts. Its expensive, but you most definitely get the absolute best of quality in the product.
Ive bent a few posts in the past because I'm a tall guy so run a fair bit of them out the seat tube but been running the Thomson for a couple of years now and barely even a scratch on it. The other really good thing about the Thomson is that with the clamps for the saddle rails being a bit longer the saddle has never moved even with really heavy landings putting pressure on the nose and tail of the saddle and with the way its set up it really easy to make micro adjustments to the pitch of your seat.
When you're fitting the saddle the different clamps that you get on the Thomson posts do make it a bit fiddly to fit but, once you've done it once or twice its fine.
Overall an absolutely brilliant product and if you're not one for a dropper post, its certainly a great post that you put on your bike and forget about it.

I have it in silver, fitted to my hard tail and I love it. Quality product, looks amazing and is light. I have bought the Thomson MTB X4 stem in the same colour and also the top cap and the bike looks amazing.
Love Thomson products, pity they don’t have a bigger range.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous I own a few lighter KCNC seat posts. But it is nothing comparable to this classy, bomb proof seat post. Bought this and I have never look back.
Well I have to say I did spent some time fixing the saddle onto it during the first installation. But that's not the problem, why would I want to take it off frequently!?
The only regret I have is wrong choice of color (doesn't really match with my bike).

Отличный продукт из плюсов: градуированная шкала наклона седла, отлично подходит к седлам с карбоновыми рейлами, по ощущениям - высокая жесткость(моя масса 73 кг).
До него обладал карбоновым подсиделом fsa с сетбеком в 35 мм, 27,2 мм, 350 мм в сравнении с ним он легче(32 гр.), практичнее, значительно более надежнее крепление, жестче.

Don't look any further you might shave a few grams but you will never have a product like this 100% made in the US flawless design that will survive you and the rigor of time to never been out of date or worn out.
