Vans Warner SPD Shoes Spring 2012

The Warner is BMX racers' and mountain bikers' first choice in style, comfort, and performance for SPD-compatible shoes. The Warner utilizes our lightweight gum rubber "Off the Wall" tread pattern molded to our performance-driven SPD-compatible outsole. We've extracted material from key points on the SPD-compatible plate to keep it light, yet stiff, over the mid foot area, while providing flex in other key areas. The upper infuses a blend of weather-resistant synthetic leathers and vented ballistic nylon mesh with a removable hook-and-loop adjustable tension strap. Our self-centering gored tongue keeps debris out of the shoe, while the molded EVA foam sockliner ensures that your feet stay comfortable and well-supported all day.

The Warner clipless shoe works with any SPD-compatible pedal system and allows for a smooth and direct power transfer to the bike from the rider over traditional footwear. This system also allows the rider to step onto the cleat to engage it, and twists the foot to the side to disengage for ease of use.

23 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Outstanding Love these! Bought my first pair a couple of years ago but are beginning to look pretty tatty now. Time for a second pair me thinks!!! :) 22 August 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by 5/5 very comfortable and they are perfect with my CB mallet pedals 14 March 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by They work Got these in the mail. First impression was they were pretty heavy and top the scales at a bit over 1.2 kg. That said, you're not going to get these if you are planning on racing xc. I'm using them on the tidy for cruising around town and they definately look better than my other race style shoes in the urban environment. The sole is stiff and the strap holds my foot nice and firmly. Can't compare will other brands but would recommend. Also it's a bit intimidating hacking away at the sole of a brand new pair of shoes to attach the cleats and takes some force to get through the rubber so be careful. 31 January 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Vans a phat Been riding this shoe for about 6months now. Bmx, DH, 4x and even on the XC bike. Very comfy. Cleat position is a little different to the Shimano and most other shoes I've ridden on, but once used to it, it feels very natural. 5/5 for this shoe. Vans rule. 22 June 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic Looks like they have listened to previous criticism. These shoes now have a much thicker insole and the cleat positioning is spot on. Very comfy on long rides. 19 October 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Shoes! I heard bad reports about the first generation of this shoe, which kind of put me off. However this years versions are great. The sole is super stiff this time round and the cleat positioning is neigh on perfect! Not to mention they look much better than the usual Shimano or FiveTen equivalent . . . 5 stars! 15 March 2010

Can these be used with Flats

Do these shoes have inserts that cover the SPD cleat area so they can be used with Flat pedals instead.

Really wanted a pair of Vans Gravels but they are not sold anymore and these are basically the same but an SPD version

Answer:
I believe that a "cleat cover" is supplied for this very reason, so that shoes can be used as flats or clipless.
