Sensor range

Can the wheel sensor be mounted on the rear wheel allowing the bicycle to be used on a turbo trainer? Is the range on the unit sufficient for this?

The transmitting distance between the transmitter and the computer on the handlebars should not be more than 60cm (transmission range).

I've followed instructions yet only the stop watch works. It appears that information from the sensors (inc cadence) isn't reaching the computer. It did work briefly but stopped, now can't figure it out. The distance sensor does flash and click although the cadence sensor does nothing.
As I'm using this bike on a turbo trainer I have set it up on the rear wheel (for obvious reasons), does this make a difference? If so what do you suggest?
