Vitus Bikes Dark Plasma Road Bike

Designed and developed by Vitus Bikes and chainreactioncycles.com to meet the needs of the endurance rider, the Dark Plasma is built with all-day comfort firmly to the fore. Feel for yourself the benefits of a high-performance carbon frame – attack the steepest ascents head-on; descend with confidence and control, and cross the finish line ready for more.

T700 HM-UD carbon frame – 950g frame weight

Our lightweight high-modulus uni-directional carbon frames are manufactured using T700 HM-UD carbon, with semi-sloping geometry for endurance riding comfort. We have updated our frame specifications to include a cut out on the seatstay bridge which adds a little more vertical compliance for increased rider comfort and reduced road vibration through the seatstays. This will benefit sportive and endurance riders who value long-distance comfort over increased stiffness.

Shimano Tiagra/FSA groupset

Shimano Tiagra shifters and derailleurs offer crisp, effortless shifting while an FSA Gossamer Pro compact chainset with 50t x 34t rings and a 12t-25t cassette provide a gear ratio that will get you over the steepest of hills with relative ease. A Vitus chain catcher comes as standard on our carbon models to reduce the risk of damaging the frame in the event of an overshift on the chainrings.

Finishing kit

FSA bars, stem and seatpost provide lightweight, race-proven components inspiring confidence in the bike’s capabilities. Mavic Aksium wheels and Schwalbe Lugano tyres offer surefooted handling and low rolling resistance for the perfect balance of light weight, speed and riding confidence. Redefine your boundaries with this Gran Fondo-inspired steed.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Outstanding Value I searched for a long, long time before buying this bike and I doubt you'll be able to find anything better for the price anywhere, I certainly couldn't. I don't know how the other reviewer came up with the weight he/she did, I weighed my XL model, on digital scales and it came in at a pleasing 8.4 kg / 18.7 LBS, that's with bottle cage, computer and light holders. That weight for a full carbon bike, with decent wheels and a decent groupset is fantastic at this price. Very smooth ride with no unwanted frame or fork flex, as there is with other popular full carbons in this price range and above. The brake pads are seriously poor, I replaced them with Swissstop Greens and now have all the stopping power I need, no big deal. Overall very pleased and I recommend this bike highly. . 26 February 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent value Bought this bike as an upgrade from an older aluminium road bike, and my first foray into carbon fiber bikes. Did a lot of research into pricing and quality and ended up taking a punt on the Vitus. I was more than impressed with what I received! The spec that the bike came with was brilliant for the price, especially the wheelset from Mavic. The frame reacts well under power and is fun to ride on any road! 12 February 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by good i have this bike over month now so I have few miles up on it. I bought this as a winter bike, weight wise its not the lightest coming in around 9.3kgs when I put it on the scales at home. so no real weight saving.all said its very comfortable on the road. brakes are rubbish you couldn't commit on a decent especially in the wet. I will change brake pads sooner rather than later. the gear shifting is good and tiagra shifters work very well and tiagra back derailer works very well. the front fsa chain set is not compatible with tiagra on the back the spacing between the 34 inner ring and 50 is to tight. my one snagged and chain came up inside back stay and tough chunk paint off. when on 34 front you can only get down to 7 on back cassette and the chain rubs on the inside of the 50 ring.i know about crossing the chain but you should be able to hit 9 on the cassette before rubbing . all in I like the bike it looks great handles really well and is great winter bike ,if you change break break pads and be patient changing gears or change front chain set to tiagra its good bike. im 5.11 I bought 58 and it fits really well and is very comfortable on long spins. hope this review is helpful as I always look at reviews before buying. 05 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by great bike great bike for the price, really like it. Will do me for a long time and many miles. Really well packaged too and pre-ride stuff by CRC, with nice little touches like a pedal spanner etc etc. Thanks Rich 07 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by great value Just received my Dark Plasma, very easy to set up - just unwrap and straighten handlebars and you're away. No need for any mechanical expertise but worth taking to LBS for quick service to be safe. Good spec for £800, nice to see Mavic Aksium Race wheels. Perhaps only minor gripe is decals could be sharper. Excellent service from CRC, good advice, fast delivery and nice mix of free extras such as extra rear derailleur hangers, CRC bottle, mini tool and pedal wrench, pedals and cable rub protectors etc. 31 October 2013
