Vitus Bikes Dee - 29 City Bike

The Dee-29 is a smooth-rolling big-wheel action with disc brakes for improved stopping power and all-weather reliability. 29er wheels mean a bike that rolls better over rough roads and small kerbs, while Promax mechanical disc brakes with 160mm rotors mean more controlled braking, especially in the wet.

A 29er is an MTB, just with road bike-sized wheels (700c or 29”) rather than the 26” hoops found on ‘normal’ mountain bikes. At Vitus we say it’s up to you to decide if a 29er is right for your size and your riding style, but many riders claim a smoother, faster ride – especially over uneven surfaces - and a better fit in larger bike sizes. The Dee-29 is based on the same no-nonsense aluminium frame as its Dee-1 cousin and specced with the same tough components package – tough alloy disc wheels wrapped in high-volume Kenda tyres; FSA Vero singlespeed chainset and durable Vitus finishing kit.

Brought to you exclusively by Chainreactioncycles.com, the world’s largest online bike store, the Vitus Dee-29 is the perfect introduction to the world of big-wheel action, in a package that won’t break the bank. Rediscover the fun factor.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 18 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect balance I have had this bike for over a year now and use it to commute to work. I live in an area with a few hills and wooded paths along with general tarmac roads. I can say this is the perfect bike for the commuter that doesn't want to be limited to the road. The bike feels light and easy to throw around, the brakes are good quality cable disc brakes and only now after a year feel like the pads could do with a change. The single speed is set perfectly, you can pedal at a decent speed and don't feel you need to go much faster when you start hitting the limit of the gearing. At low speeds and such as when going up hills it is easy enough to power up them, usually overtaking people on geared bikes. Overall great quality bike, excellent for leisure and commute riding. 28 June 2014

24 February 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by AWESOME BIKE !!!!! Not had a bike for many years and thought to give the old cycling game a go again. I have instantly fallen head over heals in love with riding again thanks to the dee 29 it is so light and very friendly to ride. I must say it does feel a bit strange as i had never riden a single speed before and didnt know what to expect but the ratio is perfect for my riding which generally will comprise of round the town riding possibly a stop at costa for a latte. Everything on the bike worked straight out of the box which came pre built with just pedals to attach and handlebar adjustment. NO MESSY STUFF EXCELLENT :D Straight out on the vitus for a few miles which really took everything i have not been cardio friendly for years, BUT i managed to really enjoy myself in no time. With such big wheels i felt like the handling was far superior to any other bike i had ridden ever before. The brakes needed a slight adjustment but are now absolutely fantastic....no squeeking like i remember as a child. The only thing about this bike i am not too keen on is the seat which for me....well....how can i put it....feels like a rock. BUT!!!! it definately didnt stop my ride at all and i ordered a new seat so hopefully it should be a nice comfy ride from here on out. GO ON TREAT YOURSELF YOU WONT BE LET DOWN! THIS BIKE HAS ACTUALLY CHANGED MY LIFE !!! 15 February 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by Vitus Dee-29 Great bike for the money. I go on it for half a year, no complaints, everything works. The only thing that replaced it pedals, saddle and put slick tires, as I travel mostly on asphalt. Ahead of winter, check my Vitus Russian winter. 23 November 2013

Answer:
With no eyelets on the frame it is advised to consider running a seatpost mounted rear fender and down tube mud guard.

A kickstand can be fitted but is not an item that we presently stock.

It looks like there are mounting points on the rear dropouts but it is hard to tell if they're threaded or not.

The two small holes by the dropouts are not threaded.

A seatpost mounted mud guard or rack would be recommend for this frame.

Swap handlebars?

If i ordered the Vitus Dee 29er, could i swap the handlebars to flat ones? Would CRC do that on my behalf?

And would the price of the particular bars be added to the price of the bike or the difference from the original bars?

thanks

Answer:
We are unable to switch components on a complete bike. Your best option is simply to buy any additional items and have them swapped over upon receipt. You can then sell the original part(s) locally in order to recover some (or all) of your costs.

As there is no room for rear wheel movement; the chain links will have to be measured accurately and sized to fit.
