Vitus Bikes Escarpe 29 Suspension Bike

A hard-hitting 29er trail bike. Why should small wheels have all the fun?

Brand new to the Escarpe range for 2013 is the Escarpe 29, a big-wheeled version of our great-value full-suss trail bikes. Sharing the same custom hydroformed 6061 aluminium frame as its Escarpe siblings the Escarpe 29 offers 140mm of front travel matched with 120mm of rear bounce via our Vitus V-Link four-bar suspension system.

At Vitus we say it’s up to you to decide if a 29er is right for your size and your riding style, but many riders claim a smoother, faster ride – especially over uneven surfaces - and a better fit in larger bike sizes.

Brand new for 2013, the Vitus Escarpe 29 is brought to you exclusively by Vitus Bikes and Chainreactioncycles.com.

120mm travel V-Link frame and RockShox Sektor RL forks

Our lightweight hydroformed multi-butted, heat treated 6061-T6 aluminium frame features 120mm of rear wheel travel via a four-bar V-Link activated suspension platform which eliminates pedal bob yet remains fully active at all times. Suspension travel is controlled by a RockShox Monarch RT air shock which offers infinite adjustability and silky smooth performance. All pivots run on sealed cartridge bearings providing supple performance with low maintenance. A replaceable derailleur hanger comes as standard.

A RockShox Sektor RL fork offers 140mm of buttery smooth, infinitely adjustable travel with a tapered steerer and 15mm Maxle Lite thru-axle for precise, positive tracking through corners and rock gardens or any other obstacle the trail throws at you.

SRAM Groupset

The SRAM groupset combines X7 shifters and front derailleur with an X9 Type 2 rear derailleur and a SRAM S1400 2x10 chainset delivering slick and precise gear changes in all conditions and a gear ratio that will make short work of any gradient the trail can throw at you.

Stopping power is provided by Avid Elixir 3 hydraulic disc brakes with a 180mm rotor up front and a 170mm rotor at the rear to ensure positive, controllable braking.

Easton EA70 Wheelset & Finishing Kit

A lightweight Easton EA70 XC wheelset reduces rotational weight for faster acceleration and improved climbing prowess. With a 15mm thru-axle front hub and 142mm x 12mm thru-axle rear you can be sure that stiffness and rigidity are uncompromised. Proven Maxxis Ardent tyres combine predictable handling with low rolling resistance for complete confidence in all conditions. To complete the package we've added an Easton EA50 stem and seatpost to compliment the wheelset with Vitus bars, grips and saddle providing the finishing touches.

The Vitus Escarpe 29. All the trail bike you’ll ever need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great piece of kit especially for the taller rider Did a lot of research before settling on this bike. Glad I did, the specification for the money is excellent and the large frame and 29er wheels have transformed my riding. I'm 6'4" (190 cm) tall and this bike just feels right, I realise now how wrong "little" bikes always feltfelt. Only complaint is the soft paint, but them Vitus have included pots of touch up paint! 24 February 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fab Escarpe 29er Received this bike in a massive box, and upon opening it and removing the bike found that everything was in tip top condition! Inside the box with the bike was a bottle, basic peddles and peddle spanner, alan keys, CRC multi too, touch up paint (two colours) and info sheets. Spent time setting the bike up to my liking, during this time noting how high the front end of the bike was. But once set up for myself, due to my height (6' 2" with 34" inside leg) this front end is about the right height for me and Ive not even removed spacers or turned over the stem! First ride was around the Twrch at Cwmcarn, and the bike was great fun, soaking up big drops and the like with ease. The bike felt well balanced and stable, and rolled over roots, stones and holes making them feel like mere ripples. There seemed to be a bit of 'twang' from the wheels, but then they are a big light wheel set! Fork and shock were smooth in action, and the brakes we great. The rear mech seemed a bit in accurate on shifting, but this may be down to indexing. Its also the first bike Ive owned with a clutch rear mech, so this could also be part of the problem! Overall, Im well happy with my purchase from CRC. The bike is great and delivery was fast and safe. Will I order another bike from CRC, you bet I will! 25 November 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Outstanding redefines light weight alluminium all mountain bike I bought this bike as my sons first serious mountain bike for his 15th birthday,i ride a very nice trek fuel ex9.9 that was built to be light weight. unpacking the vitus escarpe 29er showed me just what great value this bike offers the weight was the first major surprise and i would say without putting this bike on the scales it is only 1-2 lbs heavier than my own bike. suspension quality e.t.c seems fine and is more than upto the job of trail centres e.t.c with the biggest surprise being touch up paints supplied to help keep the frame looking tip top. only had to straighten the bars and fit the pedals what more could you ask great value, reasonable components and a very capable package to boot. whats more if i was in the market for a big wheel bike this would be on my short list due to the oustanding balance and alsmost identical feeling i get on my own bike but without the need to spend a fortune. 26 October 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Well equiped, affordable and solid ride-all-day bike! Was about to buy the Escarpe 26" version but it was sold out before I made up my mind so I ended up with the 29:er, couldn't be happier! Had some worries about the frame size but the 17.5" seems to fit me perfect (I'm 178cm tall). Vitus is in my book a relatively unknown brand so it was a bit of gamble, or felt so, to buy a unknown bike unseen and un-tried. But after unboxing the bike and seeing it in real life my worries lifted and after the first ride I definitely trust this bike! It's my first full suspension 29:er and using it on familiar trails makes me smile every ride, compared to my 26" Giant Reign the obstacles are passed with less effort and better speed. I can how ever feel the rotating mass in the wheels when blasting down trails and the steering is a bit slower but not that it is disturbing. The handle bars is way higher and the seating position is more upright compared to my previous bike, I lowered the stem, there is still spacers to move if necessary. Only thing I changed is the seat post, installed a dropper post and I believe it lifted the usability and fun-factor on the bike several notches and feels like a must for a bike like this! 30 September 2013

Answer:
The Escarpe uses a 31.6mm diameter of seatpost. This means there is plenty of choice if you would like to change it. This includes most dropper posts as well.

If you need further information on the specification on the bike, the size chart has a detailed listing. Open the link and scroll to the bottom you will find it there.

Es muy fácil, solo dale un clic en la parte superior donde está la liga de “Tabla de Tallas” y ahí podrás verificar cual es la talla adecuado para ti. Recuerda que es importante tener tu estatura y la medida interior de tu pierna.

Hi, I'm 5'11" with a 32inch inside leg, what would be the correct size Escarpe 29 for me?

I usually ride a 19" 2008 Orange P7, which has a 600mm effective top tube, and a 90mm stem. It fits me perfectly, and I was hoping to get something that would be a similar size?

Thanks!
