Vitus Bikes Escarpe I Suspension Bike

More travel, you said. Less weight, you said. We listened.

Refined and improved for 2013 is our Escarpe range of suspension Trail bikes, built around our custom hydroformed 6061 aluminium frame with 140mm of rear travel delivered via our Vitus V-Link four-bar suspension system.

With 140mm front travel and an upgraded components package, the Escarpe I mixes a play-bike hooligan character with the light-touch manners to behave itself on long-haul epics or lung-busting climbs. Mile-munching with your mates? Buzzing about in the woods? Enduro-style events? Alpine adventure? It’s all good…

140mm travel V-Link frame and RockShox Revelation RL forks

Our lightweight hydro-formed multi-butted, heat treated 6061-T6 aluminium frame features 140mm of rear wheel travel via a four-bar V-Link activated suspension platform which eliminates pedal bob yet remains fully active at all times. Suspension travel is controlled by a RockShox Monarch RT3 air shock which offers infinite adjustability and silky smooth performance. All pivots run on sealed cartridge bearings providing supple performance with low maintenance. A replaceable derailleur hanger comes as standard.

A RockShox Revelation RL Solo Air fork offers 140mm of buttery smooth, infinitely adjustable travel with a tapered steerer and 15mm Maxle Lite thru-axle for precise, positive tracking through corners and rock gardens or any other obstacle the trail throws at you.

SRAM Groupset

The SRAM groupset combines X9 shifters and X7 front derailleur with an X9 Type 2 rear derailleur and a SRAM S1400 2x10 chainset which combines lightweight with a full compliment of gears to meet the demands of any AM challenge.

Alpine descents require powerful brakes and the Avid Elixir 5 hydraulic disc brakes will not disappoint; with a 180mm rotor up front and a 160mm rotor at the rear for powerful, fade free braking performance.

Finishing Kit

A lightweight Easton EA70 XC wheelset reduces rotational weight for faster acceleration and improved climbing prowess. Proven Maxxis High Roller tyres combine predictable handling with low rolling resistance for complete confidence in all conditions. Completing the package is a durable and great value mix of Easton EA50 and Vitus finishing kit.

The Vitus Escarpe I. Let’s play.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 9 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by An excellent Mountain Bike Love it love it love it. Was a bit unsure at first about purchasing this bike as I had not heard of them before, I do not now regret the decision. I had a Trek Fuel EX 7 prior to this bike and I feel that the Vitus Escarpe 1 is by far the better bike. And I would have no hesitation about buying another one in a few years time. The geometry suits me and my style of riding, which makes the bike a joy to ride. The Rock Shox suspension both front and rear are very good set ups,and I have no quibbles about them at all. The only thing I did change was the brakes. It came with Avid 5's, and I had not long purchased Shimano SLX when I had my Trek. So I swapped the brakes over because I loved the SLX. So cannot comment on the Avid's. The SRAM X9 is faultless, in my opinion far better than the Shimano's that were on the Terk. If I had to find fault it would be having smaller ratio chain rings, may be 24/36 as some of the trails in my local area are short and steep; so smaller ratio's would help with this; other's may have no worries with them. Or I need to man up. And the paint work, as others have mentioned is a bit delicate. I covered mine in black duck tape to help protect it. As it sells better when I come to sell it in the future if the paint work is in good condition. I did have an issue with the free hub, so I returned it to CRC for a warranty replacement and their service on this matter was excellent :). So overall this is a fantastic bike and getting it for £1300 in the sale is an absolute bargain and made a very good bike even better. It does all that I ask of it (except may be get up very steep trails, smaller ratio chain rings would help). In fact the bike is better than I am, I don't do it justice Would give 4.5 stars but not able to 10 May 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by 12 April 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing bike:) For the price you CANNOT find brand new bike with better spec( especially on sale price) It handles very well downhill as well as uphill, as the back end is nice a stiff, Avid Elixir 5 gives you really good breaking power. Overall great bike, I'm glad I decided to go for it instead of some other more expensive bikes:) 26 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by great spec for price Been out twice since buying this bike and have to say very pleased with it. the sram x9 type 2 derailleur is super smooth and the rockshox revelations when setup correctly, soak up the roughest of trails no problem. Top bike for the price and doubt the spec can be beaten on a bike of this price, even more so at sale price. 23 February 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent service, value and kit. Very prompt and efficient service, excellent value on the vitus escarpe 1. very happy with the quality and ride of the bike, much better than expected. I've been riding a cheap hardtail for about a year now and I should have brought the escarpe 1 ages ago. Had to switch pedals straight away tho. 08 December 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by high end components leave this a no brainer My first full susser, had the bike around six weeks now and am just coming to terms with how aggresive i can be on this bike. Initially the spec on this bike is what attracted me to it as i was unsure of the frame/name. the bike rides great i can chuck into almost anything and it climbs a whole lot better than i thought it would. Not sure why you'd look at a 2014 model unless you're buying into the whole wheel size debate thing. the spec is nowhere near as good. #26aintdead 29 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic bike for the money I bought the 2012 version of this bike in the end of year sale. Even at the full asking price the bike is excellent value for money. The geometry, design and specification are all great. On steep and technical downhill sections it is very stable and never gets flustered or out of it's depth. It is also surprisingly good up steep technical sections, as it is reasonably light, pedals well, with minimal bobbing and has great traction, yet the front end stays firmly planted. It will easily cope with anything that bikes costing more than twice as much struggle with and definately flatters my riding ability! It should be pointed out that even though the bike is fitted with a 27.2mm diameter seatpost, the seat tube is fitted with a removeable shim (which the technical spec doesn't tell you)and will in fact take a seatpost up to 31.6mm diameter. So yes, you can fit a decent dropper seatpost! The only slight negative is that although the paintwork is nice and shiney it is not as tough as it could be. I would recommended that you cover vulnerable areas with "Bike Shield" or helicopter tape if you don't want it to look tatty fairly quickly. My bike came with an excellent goodies bag which as well as all the tools you require to assemble and adjust the bike, included touch-up paint which is a nice touch and very usefull. Buying this bike was one of the best decisions I have ever made. 22 January 2013

Answer:
Does come with pedals( standard cheap pedals) but they are only extra things that CrC gives you with the bike, so if you wanna good quality pedals you need to buy them separate.
Modern bikes doesn't come with pedals as some people running flats and the others run spd.

Answer:
Yeah it was the chain rings that I wished to change. But the ones on CRC website didn't seem to match the BCD for the bike, or if they did match the BCD then they were not of the ratio that I wanted.

Any thoughts anyone???

Answer:
You don't need to chain whole if this is what you mean, you can simply swap the chainrings out for some different one, but you have to remember that cranks fitted on this bike are 120bcd, so make sure that you get correct chainring.

Yes it does come with pedals but they are not worth making pictures:)
They are just some basic pedals, new bikes normally doesn't come with quality pedals, as some people run flats and some other run spd's, so you need to get some nice pedals yourself.

Dropper Seat Post & Uprated forks?

Hello,

I'm keen on this bike. Does the seat post diameter of 27.2mm mean that this bike is incompatible with dropper posts?

Also, is there any scope to uprate the forks to a dual position/air system?

Kind regards,
Steven

Answer:
There is a shim that you can remove which will then enable it to take a dropper post. My Rock Shox reverb fitted no worries.
Sorry can't comment on the forks. But as long as the steerer was the right type to go in the head tube and the travel was not much difference then it should fit. If you alter the travel too much it will upset the geometry of the bike

Answer:
This bike is not compatible with Rock Shox Reverb posts; but there are alternatives on the market.

The bike has to be sold by us as it was supplied by the manufacturer; the forks however can be changed by yourself after purchase and there are many options for fork fitment to this frame.

Yes it does come with 27.2mm seatpost but with the shim, if you remove it you can fit proper dropper post up to31.6mm.
Don't know about forks but you'll be better of sending email directly to vitus and ask them about that.
