Vitus Bikes Sentier 275 VR Hardtail Bike 2014

WINNER OF MBR’s HARDTAIL OF THE YEAR £1000 CATEGORY 2014

Beating over 20 bikes in this year’s MBR Hardtail of The Year, the Sentier VR was chosen as winner of the £1000 category. MBR’s Danny Milner was incredibly impressed with the Sentier VR commenting that it offers “an incredible value package where every penny saved has been passed on to the customer — and that’s before you take into account the fact that CRC has reduced the price to £799.99. This bike is super fun to ride – probably THE most fun to ride out of all the bikes in our test this year and ultimately that was the most important thing for us.”

From backwoods singletrack to trail centre assaults, the Sentier range of aggressive trail hardtails have been designed with fast paced, action packed epics in mind! With a super-light triple-butted 6061-T6 aluminium frame and high performance components package, the Sentier 275 VR is one step ahead of the game!

Super-Light Mechanical Formed Triple-Butted 6061-T6 Aluminium  Frame & Suntour Raidon XC Fork

Our super-light 6061-T6 aluminium frame has been triple-butted to reduce weight and tune the tubeset for improved handling and all round performance. With aggressive trail geometry designed around 27.5” (650b) wheels and a 120mm travel fork the Sentier urges you to push the boundaries with surefooted confidence inspiring handling! Suntour Raidon XC Air forks feature hydraulic Lock-Out & Rebound adjustment with 120mm of air sprung travel. A tapered alloy steerer and 32mm AL6061 stanchions present a lightweight but stiff front end for precise and responsive steering.

Shimano XT & FSA Groupset

Shimano XT shifters with XT rear and Deore front derailleurs provide flawless shifting throughout the gear range. The XT Shadow Plus clutch rear derailleur improves chain tension which reduces the chance of chain derailment. An FSA Comet 2x10 chainset provides the driving force at the heart of the transmission. Shimano SLX hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors front and rear provide powerful and dependable stopping power with great modulation and lever feel.

Shimano WH-MT35 27.5” Wheelset & Vitus Finishing Kit

Shimano’s lightweight WH-MT35 27.5” (650b) wheelset offers excellent performance and durability. Continental X-King tyres provide surefooted handling and low rolling resistance. Finishing kit is supplied by Vitus with our lightweight 6061 alloy stem, bars and seatpost providing high performance components which have been colour coded to match the frame decals.

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome bike for returning to mountain biking. Been looking to return to mountain biking after 10 years and 2 kids. Agonised long and hard as to whether this was too much bike for me or just exactly what I would need to re-find my long forgotten skills. I'm glad I took the plunge and when straight for Vitus. The bike is awesome, I am bombing around like a kid half my age and the Sentier VR has not let me down, shown me up, or spat me off! Chain Reaction have again been fantastic with customer care, especially Brand Manager Simon who answered my FB messages unbelievably fast and even gave me his company email address to alert me of bike stock availability. This will not be my last Vitus bike. 08 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by great bike, but be careful with sizing! I've been out on this bike a few times now, from local trails to nearest trail centre. Its excellent quality, and the spec is fantastic for the price. The bike is a very fun ride and i find it pushes me a bit to ride a little harder and push a little further, a great quality in a bike. One thing i would say though is be careful with sizing. I have 28.5" inside leg and there isnt much standover clearance (JUST enough for me). The pictures dont do it justice, its a cracking looking bike too. 06 July 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by

Rated 5 out of 5 by great value bike Having never bought a bike out of a box before I expected to spend ages putting it together but was amazed that all I had to do was bolt the handlebars on and go,the gears were all spot on too! The stickers on the forks are a bit naff and the square seat stays are not pretty but that is forgotten when you ride it,I was not expecting to much but it was great fun on the first 2 hour evening ride,it climbed well and really felt firm when speeding down woody single tracks.brakes are very sharp and the gear ratios give you as much as you will ever need.impressed so far ! 12 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Vitus bikes 275vr Just got my vitus this week and today, I had the opportunity to test it! What a pleasure to ride on it :) for this price, difficult to find better! Chainreaction - awesome service, keep it up :) 01 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bang for the buck First of all, this bike is excellent in almost every possible way. The ride feels great, and I'm not getting a stiff lower back during my climbs anymore. 2x10 gears is more than enough to get you up and down the mountains! The handlebar gives you loads of control, and when your behind gets used to the saddle you won't mind that it's a little hard! (No pun intended) Now, the reason why I've set the quality to average is because the second I unpacked the carton I noticed slack in the fork. I immediately took it to my local dealer and they confirmed my concerns. There was slack between the upper and bottom case assy. The technician told me that for rough riding this wasen't the best fork for this bike at all. So..., now there is a Manitou Minute heading my way, and when I put it on the bike it will rule the streets of Trondheim in Norway :) Though I'm giving the fork thumbs down, it is said to be a great piece of hardware for the money, but tends to break down fairly easy when ridden -very- rough! Don't hesitate to buy the bike though. Every other piece of kit on it is extreme and can take a real pounding! 31 May 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Superb bike. Was looking for a hardtail as I ran a full sus bike for almost 2 years and wanted a wee change.. I did look at the seniter but I couldn't try before I buy so was a bit worried about size fittment etc.i spent a few weeks looking at reviews of this bike and trying to determine if I should get a small or medium frame..this bike won best hardtail of the year in its class form MBR magazine. I even got some advice from the team at MBR that tested all the hardtails vie emails... This bike has got very good specs on it. Slx,xt etc Iv had the bike out on a few good long runs (56k) all of road and a mtb marathon and it runs very good,it's light and can be thrown about on the trails and with the wide bars it steers spot on,gear run very smooth I heard a comment about the seat been hard but I was out for about 3-4 hours off road and it was good for me.. Forks are air and are good..the bike rolls very fast... For the money you get a lot of bike and it looks very nice and best part is you've not followed the rest and got a name brand as all you do is get low spec parts and pay for the name on the frame.. I'm 5f 4" and I think the small frame fits me good as my full sus bike is a small and my single speed hardtail is a med... THE STANDOVER HEIGHT OF THE SMALL FRAME IS 760mm... It's a very good bike you won't be disappointed at all.. Any help I can give just ask a question ... 19 May 2014

How much assembly is required out of the box?

How much assembly is required out of the box? Will I just have to turn the handlebars? I am outside the EU if that means it would be packed differently?

Thanks!

Answer:
This bike undergoes a PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection); so that all that is required when the bike arrives with you is to turn the bars, tighten the headset and fit the front wheel.

They are tubed. But throw the tyres away as they are rubbish. The rims will need a tubeless conversion kit too.

Answer:
The wheels on this Sentier run a standard tyre and tube setup. They can be converted to run tubeless if you wish, by buying a conversion kit in the aftermarket.

Answer:
Never mind, I found it in the sizing charts. I should have had to look around better. I case any one else does not think of looking there, the max tires size is 2.3" according to the chart.

Answer:
I'm 5f 4" and i got a small frame... I do know someone that is 5f 11" and he got a medium and he likes that size..
All depends on wat you like..
The standover height on my bike is 760mm when I am standing over the top tube of the bike so a medium would be a bit to big for me I think...I like to have plenty room so I can move about on it ....just use my 760mm standover height for a small frame and the table sizeing that's on the vitus seniter page and hope you can get a better idea...

Hope this helps...
