All-Mountain. All day. All that you want in a bike, and then some.
New for 2013 Vitus introduce the Sommet range, a big-mountain bruiser geared for gravity Enduro action with phenomenal pedalling characteristics for epic back-country riding. Built around our custom hydroformed 6061 aluminium frame with 150mm of rear travel delivered via our Vitus V-Link four-bar suspension system and featuring a top-notch components package that’s ready for the thrills and spills of All-Mountain assaults.
Brought to you exclusively by Vitus Bikes and Chainreactioncycles.com, the Sommet II yearns to be let loose on adrenaline-fuelled gravity runs.
150mm travel V-Link frame and RockShox Lyrik R forks
Our lightweight hydroformed multi-butted, heat treated 6061-T6 aluminium frame features 150mm of rear wheel travel via a four-bar V-Link activated suspension platform which eliminates pedal bob yet remains fully active at all times. Suspension travel is controlled by a RockShox Monarch R air shock which offers infinite adjustability and silky smooth performance. All pivots run on sealed cartridge bearings providing supple performance with low maintenance. A replaceable derailleur hanger comes as standard.
Up front a RockShox Lyrik R Solo Air forks deliver 160mm of buttery smooth, infinitely adjustable travel. A tapered steerer and 20mm Maxle thru-axle mean precise, positive tracking through corners, rock gardens and any obstacle the trial may throw up.
The SRAM groupset combines X7 shifters and derailleurs with a SRAM S1400 2x10 chainset to provide crisp, flawless gear selections every time. A Prime Aero dual chainguide comes as standard on the Sommet II making sure your chain stays in place when the dial turns to Gnarl.
Alpine descents require brakes you can count on, so we’ve fitted dependable Avid Elixir 3 hydraulic discs with 180mm rotors front and rear for powerful, fade-free braking performance.
Easton Vice Wheelset & Finishing Kit
An Easton Vice wheelset delivers a lightweight but bombproof package for snappy accelerations with the ability to handle the roughest descents. With a 20mm thru-axle front hub and 142mm x 12mm thru-axle rear you can be sure that stiffness and rigidity are uncompromised. High-volume Maxxis High Roller tyres combine predictable handling with low rolling resistance for complete confidence in all conditions.
To complete the package we’ve added an Easton EA50 stem with Vitus bars, seatpost, grips and saddle providing the finishing touches.
The Vitus Sommet II. Unleash the beast.
Vitus Bikes Sommet II Suspension Bike Specifications:
Rated 5 out of 5 by Kjetims Great overall value
This was my first full suspension bike after dabbling a little bit on trails on a hardtail. I won't compare it to my old hardtail, as it's in totally different segments. The Sommet II is really confidence inspiring for a beginner like me. I constantly keep pushing my limits since the bike feels really stable and handles quite well in more technical terrain. I've even started to jump and drop a little bit. In really technical sections it feels maybe a tad sluggish, but maybe it's just my limited technique that's the real problem? Climbs pretty well, and doesn't feel heavy. The frame feels and looks really good, and when the wallet allows I might upgrade some of the components. The brakes function pretty well, but seems like there's room for improvements there. Maybe a new rear shock, since a lockout could be nice. And a dropper post. Overall a great value bike that hardly will limit anyones ability to ride anything offroad. Yeah, there's some compromises - but my guess is it's unbeatable overall because of it's pricetag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by chromium Excellent Quality and Build
I've been riding an AM HT and a Freeride bike for some time and decided I wanted to try something new. I looked at all the major shop brands like Specialized, Giant, Trek, Santa Cruz etc and found that I needed to sell a major internal organ to purchase a similar bike. Vitus may not be known this side of the Atlantic but it's been by far the best bike purchase I've ever made. Total time from order to arrival took less than ten days at standard shipping. While unpacking I couldn't help but notice the premium feel and build of the Somett II. Although there are a few additions I'll make overall the base specs are quite good. I'll be upgrading the brakes and adding a dropper post, perhaps going 10x1 but that'll be it for this bike.
I'll be racing this bike next year in the Bell Enduro Series here in Utah and based on the geometry and build I should have no problem. The initial shuttle rides and up hill climbs have been a pleasure. The air suspension is very supple when dialed and provides plenty of travel for even the most technical descents. The bike climbs surprisingly well, if not better than my HT.
If you're looking for an all around aggressive do it all bike check out the Somett series! The price is incredible and the feel and ride unbeatable. I dare anyone to compare this bike to other brands, you won't find a better deal. Next year I'll be looking at the Vitus FR/DH bikes and an all mountain 29er for my wife.
Enjoy the ride! Thanks CRC and Vitus for such a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Thebeast Great buy
Fairly new to MTB. Started off with a GT hartdtail which was a great bike but wanted to keep up with my mates. They are in the all mountain suspension range with lots of travel ( Lapierre & Giant). Bought the sommet II even though went to the CRC store with a different bike in mind. For now it is the best decision I have ever made. It just wants to pick up speed and attack the downhill tracks. Spec is good. I have overcome the no lockout suspension. Not a prob. Will eventually upgrade to a dropper post and maybe the brakes too but they are working fine for now- just that I am a bit on the heavy side. Just recently did rostrevor co. down - mega mission and black trail. . Never would have attempted last year. In a nutshell - great bike for a new guy or a seasoned vet. Maybe better bikes on the market at a higher price but this will get you down the mountain quick and safe

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous Just found out that other model of Rock Shox Lyric Solo has a locking mechanism and in this particular model it does not have locking mechanism. Anyway, using for more than two weeks now in rough, sandy uphill & downhill roads, I was able to appreciate the shock with or without locking mechanism (change the setting to turtle). Minor upgrade I made by changing the seat post with Cobalt 2 setback, saddle with White Selle Italia, put SRAM cable/frame protector, pedal with Crank Brother Eggbeater and reduce the spacer. Now I solved all my issues. Regarding the price, with all the parts that put this bike together like SRAM group, wheels, shocks, etc. and don't forget the beautiful design, quality and finishing of the Vitus Sommet II frame which I love most is perfect for me. Unlike other brand which is more expensive. I highly recommend this bike! You will not regret of what you paid for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous Nice Quality Bike
When I unpacked this bike, I was so amazed of the quality and finishing of the frame. Compare to other bikes which are so expensive but the group are the same. The only parts that I don’t appreciate is the seat post where Vitus should provide Easton or other brand. Anyway, if you don’t like it change it. CRC did not provide protection rubber on the cables that are touching the front frame or front shock. Put some protection, because my friend Vitus bike has scratches on the front frame & shock due to cable unprotected with rubber. The other thing that I did notice before the purchase is the RockShox Lyric Solo. The shock doesn’t have a locking mechanism where you can stop the shock, but it’s my mistake. Reason maybe they call it Solo. All in all, the bike is solid.
