Vitus Bikes Zircon 29 Hardtail Bike

So you’re 29er-curious. Here’s your chance to scratch that itch…

For riders keen to explore the claimed performance benefits of larger wheels, the Vitus Zircon 29 combines 29” hoops with a lightweight triple-butted 6061-T6 hydroformed aluminium frame and trail-ready componentry at a wallet-friendly price.

Featuring 100mm of front suspension travel with lockout mode for city streets or fire-road climbs; high-volume tyres for comfort and grip; powerful mechanical disc brakes for reliable stopping power and a 24-speed SRAM transmission to get you over the steepest ascents and back down the other side.

At Vitus we say it’s up to you to decide if a 29er is right for your size and your riding style, but many riders claim a smoother, faster ride – especially over uneven surfaces - and a better fit in larger bike sizes.

Lightweight frame and 100mm travel Rockshox forks

At the heart of the Zircon 29 is a lightweight, triple-butted, heat treated 6061-T6 aluminium frame with hydroformed tubeset, trail-tuned geometry, replaceable derailleur hanger and excellent upgrade potential. The frame also features internal cable routing to prevent mud and water getting into cable housings – keeping you shifting smoother for longer and keeping your bike out of the shop and out on the trails.

Suspension duties up front are handled by the dependable RockShox XC30 TK 29 coil forks, with 100mm of travel for smooth bump absorption as well as lockout mode for climbing and commuting.

SRAM Groupset

The Zircon 29 features a full 24spd SRAM groupset with X4/X3 shifters and derailleurs and a triple chainset offering a wide selection of gears. Stopping power comes courtesy of Avid BB5 mechanical disc brakes front and rear, with dependable braking even in wet and muddy conditions.

Finishing Kit

A reliable SRAM/Jalco wheelset will make sure you stay rolling while Maxxis Beaver tyres keep you firmly planted on the trail or street.
A mix of Easton and Vitus finishing kit round out the Zircon 29 package - a lightweight and durable bike that offers the perfect introduction to the big-wheel world.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent ride and quality - Rides like bikes that are twice the price History - I purchased my first official mountain bike 20 years ago, a chromoly Gary Fisher Aquila - no shocks, square-ish frame, heavy and awesome. Since then, I've owned a GF Sugar FS. Flash forward from my first MTB 20 years to the Zircon 29r. I moved to Singapore 2 years ago and have been dying to get back on an MTB - so ordered online, sight unseen - for the spec's, price and convienence of door to door delivery, I bought it after much research. My comments are on the bike itself as I will not confuse my review of the bike with shipment ChainReaction. I wanted to give a 29r a try and this has been a wonderful experiment. The Bike - The quality, build and specs are outstanding at this price range. Frame is lightweight, well built and looks amazing. While VITUS is a French name now owned by CRC, the frame is made in Taiwan (no big deal - great quality#. I've had two MTB rides this week and I am completely smitten. The component specs are entry level but perform excellently, particularly the RS XC30 100mm fork. SRAM components are fine and I am satisfied with the wheels, brakes etc. The Avid mechanical discs are great but, sure, if you are burning downhill at 30+ mph all day, you may wish to have higher grade hydrolics but these work very well. The riding position is a bit upright, but I am used to the Genesis geometry of my latest MTB a Gary Fisher Sugar. I had 90% confidence in the first 15 minutes of the ride. Note the accent colors are green not yellow as in the pics (green is better) Shipment - GOOD news - Bike arrived from UK to Singapore in 4 days#!# and the build was very good. BAD news - Unfortuneatly the bike received 2 large scratches on the frame during shipment due to improper packaging - the brake handles were packaged near the frame and scratched two large marks into the frame. This was unfortunate and CRC needs to pay attention to this imporrtant detail. Interestingly, I recevied touchup paint in the box as if they knew it would get scratched#?#. Also note the bike does not come with pedals and my next shipment from CRC was LOST #which included my pedals) - still waiting for a parcel that had no tracking numbers that included over $100 worth of equipment - really CRC should have used tracking numbers at least. 21 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing Bought this bike and it came a week later, everything about it if perfect, the only thing i had to do was put the handle bar and peddles on, very easy, would defiantly recommend, amazing ride and also amazing forks!! :) 16 September 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by great value 4 your € Bought mine in April. After initial test ride I was forces to buy a stiffer spring.(I´m a big guy) Spent many days looking for one, because CRC doesn´t have spare parts for this fork. Also noticed that, the pre-assembly of the bike was done poorly. Brakes where rubbing the rotors heavily, and the forks pretension adjuster didn´t turn more than 1/4 of a turn. After lubing and re-assembly everything was working. The bike it self, is good compromise for what it´s worth. The fork is smooth and doesn´t flex under power. The brakes are powerfull and responsive ,although they need a long breaking in time, before they offer full stopping power. No need for hydraulic system. All the other parts are ok. No big surprises here. they are cheap to upgrade later, so don´t worry. I´m building mine to be a bikepacking steed, so i´ll leave them as is. After few rides trying to dial the tire pressure I came to conclusion that the tires are cr*p. They don´t roll, they have no grip and they are heavy. So upgrade is a must. summary: there isn´t many bikes that have all the main components dialed in like this one.(in this price group) The rest is just few € to upgrade. And a defined plus is the name "Vitus" in finnish it almost means "F*ck" ;) Buy one! 19 May 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Just a thought.... After reading the review above there are a lot of valid points made. In fact I'm gonna buy this bike at the end of the summer for the same use. I don't own the bike but as far as the brakes are concerned these are the best mechanical brakes for the money. In fact at £472.89 more expensive bikes are usually equipped with these brakes and caliper brakes are quite common in this price bracket. The spec on this bike is incredible be under no illusions!!! Don't be fooled into getting bikes with Promax hydraulics. Tried to set my mates up at the weekend and it is impossible. Squeaky and useless in every way. I'm done!!! lol 18 May 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best chiose of the price/quality I ride a bike for over a month, very active. The large 29 "wheels are much patency than the standard 26". Bike quite easy and fast. 8 speeds is enough. I have not been able to pedal at maximum. Rudder long and comfortable. Brakes good work out. Roll forward a very very good. A plug - the best. Included were all the keys and spare parts were present. I recieve my bike on 28 days. Cons. Front and rear brake are reversed: the front brake was on right hand and back - on the left hand. And after repeating the cables rubbed the frame, tearing off the paint. Do not switch on the front of a small star, it's impossible to configure, but for me two stars enough. No protection on the tape and the chain was between the cassette and spokes - had to re-adjust the rear derailleur. Saddle pretty tough. Front brake disc was crooked - I had to set up. The camera with a bicycle nipple - had to order separately with machine nipple. Despite the many disadvantages that can be corrected, this is the best bike in Europe for the money! 16 May 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by after some scum walked of with my last bike i set out to replace it with something that can handle both my occasional ride to work and the odd off road jaunt. i ride a lapierre zesty off road so i was'nt expecting it to perform anywhere near that level.anyway the bike arrived in a very large box to my surprise.it was so easy to bolt together.just handle bars and pedals.fantastic!looking at the bike the finish is the first thing i noticed as i looked it over. The paint work seems excellent quality only time will tell.Value for money:Overall yes without dought the parts package all seems good for your buck. A couple of gripes of mine though if i had to pick 1 is the chainset. sram looks good on paper but when its a cheap steel part thats just functional you know you'll be looking to upgrade sooner than later. The other gripe is the brakes hydraulic stoppers would have been a much better choice than the avid mechanical ones here. The brakes are a total let down for me.They feel very vague and week compared to a cheap hydraulic set. To me the bakes are the most important part after all.Who knows one day they may save your life. THE RIDE: Once i got out and rode the vitus 29er i must say it bought a smile to my face its great fun and rides a lot better than it should for the money spent. Its fast and responsive every stroke of the pedal propels you forward as it should, feeling very stable and secure. You won't be disappointed. OVERALL:summing up it s a great buy very good value for the price but be prepared to upgrade . Especially the brakes sooner rather than later. 17 April 2013

Answer:
Yes this is correct, the 'Vitus Bikes Zircon 29 Hardtail Bike 2013' would not be supplied with pedals so you would be able to use any Standard (9/16") Flat or Clipless pedal depending on what you wanted to use.

Answer:
Due to the larger wheel size on 29” MTB bikes, it is usually suggested to take a size smaller than the result given when calculating your size for a 26" wheel bike i.e. if you are suggested a 17” frame for a 26” wheeled bike, a 15” in a 29er will likely be sufficient – if changing up from a 26er to a 29er the important measurement to check is the top tube length; picking a 29er with a top tube length close to that of your 26” will return a more natural progression and better riding position on the bike

Answer:
As this bike is designed for Trail riding; mounting a child seat was not considered during the design process. We would not recommend mounting an additional seat to this frame due to the effects it would have on the geometry.

Answer:
A 10-speed cassette can be used on this rear wheel by using a cassette spacer.

The bottom bracket is a square taper as standard on this bike so swapping it out to match your crankset may be an requirement.
