Vitus Bikes Zircon 29VR Hardtail Bike

Already convinced that a 29 VR is for you? Here’s one begging to be ridden hard…

For 29er aficionados looking for a well-specced big-wheeler, the Vitus Zircon 29  VR features 2x10 SRAM X7 transmission and a 15mm thru-axle fork for improved stiffness and front-end tracking.

At Vitus we say it’s up to you to decide if a 29 VR is right for your size and your riding style, but many riders claim a smoother, faster ride – especially over uneven surfaces - and a better fit in larger bike sizes.

Lightweight frame and 100mm travel RockShox forks

At the heart of the Zircon 29 VR is a lightweight, triple-butted, heat treated 6061-T6 aluminium frame with hydroformed tubeset, trail-tuned geometry, replaceable derailleur hanger and excellent upgrade potential. The frame also features internal cable routing to prevent mud and water getting into cable housings – keeping you shifting smoother for longer and keeping your bike out of the shop and out on the trails.

SRAM Groupset

The Zircon 29 VR features a 20spd SRAM groupset combining X5 shifters and derailleurs with a SRAM S1000 2x10 chainset to provide slick gear changes and a wide gear ratio that will make short work of any gradient the trail can throw at you.

Avid Elixir 3 hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm/170mm rotors provide powerful, controlled stopping capability even in the worst of off-road conditions.

Finishing Kit

A durable and lightweight SRAM/Mavic wheelset offers impeccable trail performance while Maxxis Beaver tyres keep you firmly planted on the trail or street.

A mix of Easton and Vitus finishing kit round out the Zircon 29 VR package – a well-specced 29er ready for the race course, trail centre or backwoods adventure.

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 20 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by EXCELLENT SPEC, EXCELLENT VALUE My order was delivered as promised. On arrival it was like Christmas, very pleased with quality and spec of bike. I have had it for several weeks and been out on half a dozen moderately tuff rides and its with stood the test.( except starter pedals, smashed then to pieces on first ride but they got me going). I am quite new to MTB but a friend who has lots of riding time was so impressed he now owns one! (after ragging mine). Entry level bike is awesome....29 is the way forward for me. 10 October 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by No regret, great bike it's been almost 2 months since I got it from UK. I live in USA and it seems that not many ppl ride Vitus in america. Anyway, I've been researched for long time and couldn't find better one than this zircon 29vr with this price range. When I got it first, front brake lever feel soft, need to adjust F & R der. I need to bleed front brake but didn't have time. only one thing that don't like is it comes with 2.0 tires. I want to upgrade them to 2.4 F and 2.25 or 2.3 R but Vitus says max size is 2.2 and mavic rim 319 max size is 2.3 I guess I can go with 2.3 without problem but we will see. If anyone have wider tires, please let me know what size you have. Overall, it's a great bike with descent components. 05 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Rapporto qualità prezzo eccezionali. Dopo solo un paio di uscite ho potuto verificare la bontà dei compnenti che la equipaggiano e devo dire che và veramente alla grande !!! Consigliatissima. 05 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Zircon 29VR Got this bike on the back of some good review in CRC as well as MTB mags. When I received the bike, it was in abig box that protected the bike superbly. In the box with the bike was basic peddles, water bottle (no cage), peddle spanner, CRC multi tool, assorted allen keys, frame protection patches and touch up paint. The bike was already fitted with a Vitus chain stay protector. The paint finish was top notch, though the gears feel stiff in operation and the rear Avid elixir 3 did not give good lever feel in comparison to the front. I have now done over 50 miles on the bike and its a superb bike to ride. Well balanced, confidence inspiring ride that’s both race and trail orientated and not so 'barge like' as some 29ers iv ridden. The paint is still holding up well even after some big stone hits, tyres are great, gears are loosening up in operation but I'm still a bit concerned about the rear brake though it is a bit better (a simple brake bleed will fix im shore). The saddle is comfy, and all the finishing kit is spot on with the bars just the right width. Fork is nice and supple in operation, but nice stiff chassis that tracks superbly. If you are looking for a value for money 29er, you cant go wrong with this bike. Well done CRC and Vitus on a fab handling quality package. 24 September 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by alot for your money purchased this bike a month ago ,took alittle bit of getting used to with 29 inch wheels. but love it now, has upped my overall speed, top spec for the money. 23 September 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Vitus Zircon 29VR I wanted to try a 29er to do longer endurance events and based buying this bike on the MBUK review and they were spot on when they said you cannot get a better spec for money. I'm 5ft 8" and medium fits perfectly. I took the bike to the local woods and was amazed how nimble it was and how light it is. This bike is quick from the off, can handle rough ground easily, changes gears seamlessly, is comfortable to ride and blasts up & down without issue!! I'm glad I took the chance on a 29er and this one in particular. CRC delivered within a couple of days - great service. 23 September 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Hella Deal Overall, VERY impressed! Climbs very well, may not roll as well as the Carve I rode a few weekends ago. However, I think the Ground Control's on the Carve roll a bit better than the Beaver's on the Vitus. The Vitus handled technical and jumps better; the Recon with the 15mm axle loved to soak it up and keep things stable, overall it felt more rigid. The SRAM drivetrain is awesome as expected. The Elixir 3 brakes are a huge upgrade over the 1's on the Carve. I put some VP-69 pedals on it that stick like glue and will most definitely shred your leg should you miss a pedal. It even came with a bell which is my favorite part. Ding..Ding get out the way! 23 September 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome bike. I received my bike today which only took 48hrs to get to me. Once I set it up I was immediately impressed by the quality of the frame and forks. Having a complete SRAM x7 group set is fantastic at this price not to mention the mavic wheel set. It's the little touches that count like the lock on grips, chain protector and maxxis tyres. I fitted some magnesium dmr v8s to compliment this set up. I have rode bikes for 20+ years and the vitus bike is really up there with the more expensive bikes. I know this as I have had a few in my time. I especially like the little blue bag that had the basic pedals to get you going and many other items( pedal spanner, multi tool, water bottle, bunch of Allen keys, oil, touch up paint, stickers to prevent cables rubbing the frame and a spare de-railer hanger) which on the most known makes you would never get even if you payed thousands. This shows the brand actually cares for the customer and not just about making profit. I cannot recommend this bike enough, it's my first 29er and I think I have got a brilliant example of one, if this bike is an indication of the vitus brand then I will look forward to buying another in the future. By the way I bought it at the sale price and if you go through topcashback and use a cash back credit card it further reduces the cost! 16 September 2013

Answer:

Frame Sizes

I am 172cm with 30inch inside leg. Will the 15.5" frame be the correct size or will it be too small. As it is a 29er should it be better to be a bit smaller than normal?

Answer:
This size should offer a comfortable riding position for a height and inside leg measurement of 172mm and 30inch.

The Top Tube on this bike measures 586.5mm which should be similar to the current Top Tube length of your current bike if you are upgrading from a 26".

Frame Sizing?

I'm giving serious consideration to make a purchase, but the frame sizing and availability is confusing me.

The Vitus website quotes four sizes Small, Medium, Large, and Ex Large. CRC gives just 44cm (small) and 39cm (med).

The CRC sizing chart for me, 6'1" and 33 inside leg says 48-53cm frame, so I probably need a large or extra large. Are these not available?

Answer:
Given your height and details you are best to go for the 20" frame. We only have the 17.25" version left which would be to small. You would be best to go for another bike with a better fitting frame to start with to give the best fit possible.

Answer:
2.25 is about the widest tyre you can fit without running into problems. You can run wider but it depends on the brand and make. I personally would go for a 2.25 with a slightly lower PSI if you need more traction.
