Vitus Bikes Zircon II Hardtail Bike

Ready to take things to the next level?

Designed by Vitus Bikes and brought to you by Chainreactioncycles.com, all bikes in the Vitus Zircon range feature a lightweight triple-butted 6061-T6 hydroformed aluminium frame and proven components package at a great price.

If you’re a rider with some trail miles under your belt and looking for a mid-travel hardtail geared towards technical XC, look no further. The Zircon II has been revised and updated for 2013 and now features a 2x10 SRAM drivetrain for reduced weight and improved shifting performance.

Lightweight aluminium frame and Rockshox Recon 120mm travel forks

At the heart of the Zircon II is a lightweight, triple-butted, heat treated 6061-T6 aluminium frame with hydroformed tubeset, trail-tuned geometry, replaceable derailleur hanger and excellent upgrade potential. The frame also features internal cable routing to prevent mud and water getting into cable housings – keeping you shifting smoother for longer and keeping your bike out of the shop and out on the trails.

Suspension duties up front are handled by infinitely adjustable Recon Silver TK Solo Air forks, with 120mm of trail-taming travel for smooth bump absorption on technical XC loops with a lockout mode for fire-road climbs.

SRAM Groupset

The Zircon II features a 20spd SRAM groupset combining X5 shifters and derailleurs with a SRAM S1000 2x10 chainset to provide slick gear changes and a wide gear ratio that will make short work of any gradient the trail can throw at you.

Avid Elixir 1 hydraulic disc brakes with 160mm rotors provide powerful, controlled stopping capability even in the worst of off-road conditions.

Finishing Kit

A durable and lightweight SRAM/Mavic wheelset offers impeccable trail performance while grippy, high-volume Maxxis Advantage tyres will give you the confidence to push hard into every corner. A mix of reliable Easton and Vitus finishing kit round out the Zircon II package.

Rated 5 out of 5 by great deal even at full price. Fantastic package quality frame, components and great spec, that you would not find on any other new bike at this price. Internal cable routing quality painted frame and graphics. Can't fault it one bit. 07 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by WHAT A BIKE! WOW, WHAT A BIKE! this bike is amazing value for money for £590 on other makes you would get 'okay' hydro brakes and sun-tour forks and on this you get sram shifters, rockshock forks and avid hydro brakes! the frame is very thick and chunky but its also a very light bike! if your having doubts about buying this bike, don't its and excellent bike and i would highly recommend it! im also 5'12 and the 20'' frame fits me well and i have a lot of room to grow! 26 December 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Grandes prestaciones a muy buen precio. 04 December 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Zircon ll value for money Well got my new vitus zircon ll hardtail today ive been looking for a allround hardtail and after many months looking!!! this bike has got the looks and a good spec for the money,i would like to say dont knock this bike and the boxed tubing on it makes it look out of this world !! Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome What can I say, really pleased with it so far only had for a few days but from what I've seen it is great and for price I can't complain. 15 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 Great value hardtail cant be beaten I needed a hardtail to replace/upgrade my 3year old killerbee. After looking at a range of bikes in my price bracket there was nothing which came close to the Zircon II for value. The bike itself is well designed with internal cabling routing and great upgrade potential with tapered headset and bashguard mount. The components are all SRAM which is my preference and having previously used X9 the X5 used are good quality and drsam to use. The rockshox recon air forks are smooth, reactive and infinitely adjustable (pump not included) The brakes are good though I will have to replace the 160mm rotors with 203mm as I am 115 kgs!! All round this is a great hardtail package which anykne will struggle to beat on value and quality 15 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Well thought thru bike for xc/trail riding I was looking for a new bike, since it was time to retire my full suspension XC , and wanted something similar to my friends 3-4 year old ragley piglet, after trying out different hardtails at my pricerange in the shops i didnt find any hardtail bike that had the kind of geometry i liked from the Ragley , most of the models i tried had more of a "xc race" feel, with steeper headtube angle etc. I contacted CRC and got great service and help from them. Explained my: Type of riding, Height,Weight,Inseam,Budget. They recommended me the Zircon II and two more models , i gave the spec&geometry a close look, checked the vitusbikes website for additional info, browsed around and finally placed an order. The Bike. Now that i have ridden the bike for a couple of months i only have positive things to tell , its well equipped for the job at the technical XC trails on the level i ride, the 120mm RS Recon air fork feels very good and its hard to get at a bike in this price range. The short stem, wide bar and great #slacker# geometry makes it easy and fun to maneuver out on the trail, i got more confidence both on the way up and down! The 2x10 SRAM setup works great and i never feel that im missing a 3x10 or 3x9 setup that i had on my previous bike, also this gives a Little more clearance. The Zircon II has a ISCG05 mount for adding bashguard/chainguide, thats a bonus specially since there is no bash (what i could find) for the SRAM crankset on this one. Wheel&Tire feels sturdy and with good grip. There was a pair of plastic pedals included , they lasted for 30minuites on a rocky trail then there was only two plastic stumps left, went home and ordered the Shimano M520 SPD pedals and M077 Shoes. The White colour has a bit of Pearl effect to it, wich is nice . Sizing&Frame. The frame feels sturdy and solid , i had a hard time fitting on the 29" bikes so 26" felt good for me since im not that tall it made me feel more comfortable. Im 170cm ( 5' 6") and weight is 88kg (194lbs) with 77cm (31") inseam , I was between the 16" and 18" frames, i was recommended from CRC to go with the 16" frame , and it feels like a perfect size for me i can handle it with confidence and it feels responsive. Im not a pro trail rider, just riding for the fun and on a intermediate recreational level. That said i Think this bike is a bargain! 25 October 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Really awesome bike, has great specs. However... I really don't like the tires. They REALLY suck on concrete and tarmac etc. Also suck on wet mud. Good for dried off-road and grass, that's about it. Breaks are awesome. Suspension is AWESOME. Frame is awesome (although a lot more squared than I was expecting). Buy your own pedals, the ones that came with the bike were plastic. I don't like the fact they have quick release wheels. I didn't realise until it arrived though. Overall, really cool bike, although not the prettiest of the bunch. 12 April 2013

best seatpost replacement

I have the 16" frame zircon II but the seatpost wont go down quite enough due to the fixing for water bottles. What would be a good replacement post? It only needs to be marginally shorter. Thanks

Answer:
The Vitus Zircon is supplied with a 400mm long seatpost. You have two options, one is cut down your current seat post or purchase a new post which is shorter out of the box. I would recommend a 330mm post.

Suspension Lockout

Do you have to dismount and adjust the screw in the forks or does it have a lever on the bars like the voodoo hoodoo 12 model?

These forks have Turn Key lockout adjustment; dismounting from the bike is not necessarily required but there is no handlebar mounted lockout.

Headtube info

From the pictures, it seems this frame has a tapered headtube. However, the fork seems to have a standard straight 1 1/8" steerer tube. Is this right?

Answer:
The Vitus Bikes Zircon II Hardtail bike 2013 has a tapered headtube which will allow either a Tapered fork or Straight 1 1/8” fork to be used with the appropriate headset design.
