Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 197 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Seems reasonable quality, but don't know how to use it. The tools seem fine, but there is no instructions how to use them and for the average joe it will be useless. I am aware that this is my 'fault', but just want to warn you that if you are not at least part time cycle mechanic, this toolbox is not for you. Better leave the servicing of your bike to professionals. 15 October 2014

Rated 4 out of 5 by 安い! 28 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by simplemente completo para poder desarmar y armar tu bicicleta por ti mismo. 26 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by MASSIVE just MASSIVE 6 days later my MASSIVE tool set arrived at "middle earth" hehehe :P, Na for real 110% Happy everything u need to strip your bike right down to do a full re-lube, witch was a real BONUS as half the tools i didnt even know what they was for, very very happy, thanks ChainReactionCycles 21 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Got what you need Contains most of what you need as a home cycle tool kit 19 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Quality Toolset for a Low Price Considering I got this for less than the cost of 1-2 tools that are Park Tool brand, I am ecstatic. The quality is great, maybe not shop grade, but for the regular every day 'Joe Schmo' it is a must have. I bought this with an XT groupset in order to install everything myself. Turned out I used 10 of the 18 tools included and was thoroughly impressed. They are built strong enough that you can keep them for years, and you won't have to head to the bike shop every time you need to remove your cassette for cleaning, or your bottom bracket for that matter. Everything in this kit will be used at one point and I am very glad that it was at such a good price from CRC. Would buy again, but now that I have them I won't have to! 18 September 2014

Hi,

I had an issue with the tip of the crank extractor tool being too wide for the square taper bb insert to push it out. I forced off the the black tip of the tool (see photo), but even at that it scraped the metal on the inside of the crank from being too wide.

The x-tools part is on the right in the picture, with another tool crank tool on the left.

Is this tool supposed to work with all cranks/bottom brackets?

Answer:
Jonathan

the crank extractor tool is different from the tool for square taper BB.

You can't extract a BB with this tool. You extract the crankarms. Then with the correct tool you unscrew the BB and remove it.

Answer:
Hi Jonathon,
If I am reading your post correctly, then all you need to do is pull the tip out. It is sitting in there in a similar manner to a socket sits on a wrench, with a small ball bearing and groove. If you give it a good pull (possibly with pliers or multi grips if it's tough) you should then be able to use the tool as you'd like.

Answer:
I forced off the tip already and as I stated it scraped the square tapered holes of the crank because it was marginally too wide for the holes (i had file it down afterwards to put the cranks back on again) . I also damaged the threads of the crank arm because rather than the top part fully extending into the square tapered holes of the crank and push it off the bottom bracket, it just pushed itself out of the crank threads damaging the threading.

So im trying to figure out the spec of the part, was it designed to work with all cranks/bottom bracket designs? e.g. square taper, octolink etc

Answer:
This crank extractor is universal. As WillG said you can pull top of it, and it will separate it from the main tool so you would be able to use it with square crankset.

Answer:
In the original question I stated that I already removed this tip from the top and it is not sufficient - "forced off the the black tip of the tool (see photo), but even at that it scraped the metal on the inside of the crank from being too wide."

In my second post I stated that with the tip removed it resulted in damaging the "threads of the crank arm because rather than the top part fully extending into the square tapered holes of the crank and push it off the bottom bracket, it just pushed itself out of the crank threads damaging the threading."

So I cant really call it universal when it had this effect on my drive side crank. You can see the differences in the width of the top section from the photo I attached (the tip is not removed in the photo but when it is removed, it is still wider by a few mm than the other crank extractor tool which works perfectly.

Answer:
There's nothing specific in the kit, but it depends on the brake and bleed port in question; some run M10 bolts, some are as small as 6mm and some use Allen key fittings. An adjustable wrench or small pack of precision spanners would likely cover most systems.

Answer:
Its usually a 7mm spanner that you need - which is excluded from not spanner sets that people have (they usually include 6mm and 8mm but no 7mm)

This kit does not have a 7mm spanner

Personally I found it well worth it to buy a 7mm spanner separately
