X-Tools Chain Wear Indicator Tool

The X-Tools chain wear indicator will determine if your chain needs to be replaced. Over a period of time every chain will stretch resulting in poor shifting and the high possibility of the chain snapping. The industry standard for chain replacement is when the chain wear is between 0.75% and 1.0%. Simply place one end into a link on your chain and if the 0.75% side fits in your chain will soon need replacing, if the 1.0% side fits in replace your chain immediately.

X-Tools Chain Wear Indicator Tool Features:

  • Compatible with all chains
  • Peace of mind on long rides or competitions

Answer:
All current chains are produced with the same pitch (distance between the rollers) of 1/2". This tool measures the gap to indicate chain stretch/ roller wear so can be used with all these chains, regardless of their physical width.

Answer:
½" links are ½" links - the difference between 7/8/9/10/11 speed chains is the width. Since 'stretch' is the length, the tool works... However the maximum permissible stretch is different between the different chain speeds.
